An amazing evening of inspiring entrepreneurs and scientists pitching some incredible ideas at UNSW Founders 10x Demo Day. 19 Start-up pitches across health, climate, synthetic biology, defence and business at the NSW State Library! WOW! She’s a beauty! It was inspiring and reassuring we are in safe hands with some many incredible innovators leading the way and in such a short time. Great to catch up with StandingTall - another amazing start-up that has been through this journey with us and Givewrap - An amazing pitch! We love it! It was also great to see Westpac joining forces to support Women Founders.

I need your help…🙏 This may be a great opportunity to share my ideas on how we can move forward in #education with the help of #AI. This event seems to be the perfect venue to discuss how we can impact the education system for the better. The theme is AI for good; and how we can make our state and community better through its use. I’m currently mulling over ideas to discuss like #assessment in the age of AI, utilizing AI for #teachers, how AI can deepen our thinking 💭, and so many more. This is also exciting because this is a Pennsylvania based training. I feel like this showed up on my feed for a reason…🤔🧐 What would your topic of discussion be? What would you talk about as a way to use AI for good and fire the betterment of your own community? What’s the hot topics that are on every teachers mind right now? Let me know your thoughts down below. 👇

🌟 Wrapping Up an Insightful Day at the ImpactPHL Summit 🌟 Today, I had the enriching experience of participating in the ImpactPHL Summit, where John Moore set the stage with this year’s theme, "Modeling the Human Economy." His compelling perspective on Philadelphia's historic role in experimenting with new forms of governance resonated deeply, especially his comment on the need to reassess our current economic systems which see 50% of the world’s wealth owned by just 1%. The day was filled with thought-provoking discussions: - Melissa Bradley from 1863 Ventures emphasized how equitable investment in Black businesses could dramatically cut national debt from $34 trillion to $19 trillion, highlighting a 96% survival rate for these enterprises. - Sean O’Sullivan of SOSV captivated the audience with his journey through impact investing in sustainable innovations like plant-based meat, reminding us that significant changes often follow crisis points. The panel on community-based approaches versus prescriptive grantmaking sparked critical dialogue, especially around effective philanthropy and its role in economic action. Philip Gaskin shared a standout initiative in Kansas City where a collaborative micro-lending program led by the Kauffman Foundation addressed a $134 million gap, resulting in 170 microloans without a single default. As I now head to the Life Science Cares Impact Reception, I carry with me the day's lessons and inspirations. We’re poised to apply these insights to further our mission, leveraging every opportunity to catalyze change and enhance community impact. Great job Cory Donovan and ImpactPHL and Witty Gritty #LifeScienceCares #ImpactPHL #ImpactInvesting #CommunityImpact #Philadelphia

The #PathwaysPledge is not a prescriptive, box-ticking activity. Instead, it is focused on measurable actions and open collaboration within the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Andrew McNeill, Managing Partner at Eos said: “It’s important to see clear actions being taken on the back of the #PathwaysReport. Eos is committed to being welcoming and engaging, both for #FemaleFounders and #FemaleInvestors, but that doesn’t happen by itself and so our pledge actions include hosting a series of events to break down barriers for those who are interested in Scottish impact investing, as well as ensuring a diverse selection panel for reviewing all new opportunities. We would like young and female founders to look at our portfolio and be excited to be a part of it.” More information on the Pledge, its signatories, and its impact can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gZBTjTs3. #SmallStepsBigImpact #MovingForwardFaster

The Green Economy Conference at the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) was a lot of fun. We focused on our vision for 2044 to create the story of how we get there. I was thrilled to be the queen bee of a swarm focused on #ConsciousFinance and the question: How do we align human financial #prosperity with the #health of #bioregions? Something that I've noticed whenever anyone is asked to #imagine what life will be like in 20+ years is that they have a hard time comprehending what's possible in two decades. Some tips when #futurecasting: 1) Assume everything is going to be A LOT better... we are accelerating exponentially, not linearly. 2) Start with focusing on what you actually want... not on solving problems. Notice if you are trying to avoid something you don't want, or whether you are joyously seeing your desires manifesting. 3) Repeat again and again. Stay tuned... my swarm has a fun comic book being released soon. It's a WILD tale. I'm grateful for this amazing heart-centered team that made this possible led by Greg Apodaca and Niki Faldemolaei and a room full of Shamans and TechnoShamans. #innovation #exponential #economy #biofi Sophia Kenekulia, Christopher J. Had a fun time attending last night's event by Hard Stuff exploring climate hardware! 🔧 Here are my fave 3 reflections from my chats and reading about this. ✨ 1️⃣ Hardware solutions play a key role in energy, new materials, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors. (https://lnkd.in/eEgPXUFc shoutout to Emma Scarf on this article!) 2️⃣ VCs traditionally favour software solutions because of higher capital costs and development times. For a hardware startup to succeed in raising VC funding, it's important to understand whether it's the right fit - if they don't invest in hardware, the process will be long and painful. (https://lnkd.in/eGpBqYKe by Sammy Fry & Pippa Gawley.) 3️⃣ There are v promising shifts in this field in the UK - Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) is a government-backed agency, which funds high-risk scientific innovation, and VCs like Lowercarbon Capital, Voyager Ventures and Climate Capital (and many more!) are focusing on deep-tech investments in the UK and EU. Ultimately, our world is full of physical challenges that need physical solutions, so it's great to see movement in the right direction on this. 🌎

Last week, Mercy Corps Ventures Managing Partner Tim Rann participated in the #CultureShiftingSummit in London alongside leading emerging markets investors, including Rachel Crawford, Jose Miguel Cortes, Kanini Mutooni, and Erika Brodnock MBE. Some takeaways: ▪ Although diligence methods differ, everyone agreed on the importance of honest assessments and developing deep relationships with founders. ▪ Advisory, B2B sales leads, and other forms of post-investment technical support are crucial given the multitude of barriers faced by founders building innovative tech / models in challenging contexts. ▪ We ran out of time before all of us could answer the final question ("Agnostic to the mandate of your current firms - If you had $100M to invest in EM, how and where would you invest?"), but our answer would have been Natural Capital. We are in the early stages of a fundamental paradigm shift in how we value land holistically and incentivize regenerative use. We think investing in the nature-positive economy is a no-brainer. A big thank you to Dustin Shay, David Parker, and Andrea Hoffman for an incredibly inspiring summit that brings diversity and inclusion to the capital markets.

I consider myself truly fortunate to have been invited to attend Evolution Equity Partners #presidentsforum during this week’s RSA Conference. Dennis Smith and Richard Seewald always curate unbelievable speakers and this year was no different with President Bill Clinton. Hearing from our leaders in turbulent times always carries incredible weight as many of us attempt to find ballast amidst increasing divisiveness. As a teenager finding my way in the 1990’s, Bill Clinton influenced and defined my passion for the political process, an appreciation of history and what it represented in present day, but most importantly the overriding theme of public-private partnerships and working together as people despite differences of opinion. It often feels like we’ve lost the ability to see each other as humans from the faceless formats of social media, deafening noise of entertainment news and greater problems equals better politics. The comment which resonated most with me and I’m sure many within the room, “anyone who tells you that you get more with subtraction and division versus addition and multiplication is wrong,” should be echoed more today by all of our leaders. #venturecapital #growthcapital #startup #scaleup #investmentbanking #privateequity #election2024 #politics #economy #leadership
