The #PathwaysPledge is not a prescriptive, box-ticking activity. Instead, it is focused on measurable actions and open collaboration within the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Andrew McNeill, Managing Partner at Eos said: “It’s important to see clear actions being taken on the back of the #PathwaysReport. Eos is committed to being welcoming and engaging, both for #FemaleFounders and #FemaleInvestors, but that doesn’t happen by itself and so our pledge actions include hosting a series of events to break down barriers for those who are interested in Scottish impact investing, as well as ensuring a diverse selection panel for reviewing all new opportunities. We would like young and female founders to look at our portfolio and be excited to be a part of it.” More information on the Pledge, its signatories, and its impact can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gZBTjTs3. #SmallStepsBigImpact #MovingForwardFaster

Last week, Mercy Corps Ventures Managing Partner Tim Rann participated in the #CultureShiftingSummit in London alongside leading emerging markets investors, including Rachel Crawford, Jose Miguel Cortes, Kanini Mutooni, and Erika Brodnock MBE. Some takeaways: ▪ Although diligence methods differ, everyone agreed on the importance of honest assessments and developing deep relationships with founders. ▪ Advisory, B2B sales leads, and other forms of post-investment technical support are crucial given the multitude of barriers faced by founders building innovative tech / models in challenging contexts. ▪ We ran out of time before all of us could answer the final question ("Agnostic to the mandate of your current firms - If you had $100M to invest in EM, how and where would you invest?"), but our answer would have been Natural Capital. We are in the early stages of a fundamental paradigm shift in how we value land holistically and incentivize regenerative use. We think investing in the nature-positive economy is a no-brainer. A big thank you to Dustin Shay, David Parker, and Andrea Hoffman for an incredibly inspiring summit that brings diversity and inclusion to the capital markets.

Second day of the Sorenson Impact Summit and we are diving deep into outcomes-based financing with a panel discussion on "Lessons from the Front Lines: A Decade in Outcomes-based Financing." This session was packed with insights and reflections on the transformative journey of outcomes-based financing over the past decade. Our panel of experts—Andi Phillips, Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Community Outcomes Fund, Maycomb Capital; Jeffrey Cyr, Founder & Managing Partner, Raven Indigenous Outcomes Funds; and our very own Janis Dubno, MBA, Managing Director, Impact Finance, Sorenson Impact Institute—who have been at the forefront of this movement, shared their experiences and lessons learned. They offered a comprehensive look at the successes and obstacles in this field, providing actionable insights for both seasoned professionals and those new to the concept. It was great to hear from this wonderful panel, and from the discussion, it is clear that leveraging data and fostering partnerships will be key to driving impactful change in the years to come. #sorensonimpactsummit #outcomesbasedfinancing #innovativefinance #socialimpactbond

💪 Last year in climate tech, 58 female founders closed funding rounds. That's awesome but we still need more female founders and more female investors, because in the same period, 826 male-founded climate tech companies closed rounds, according to PitchBook. 😇 You don't have to be part of a large VC to start investing, you can do it yourself as an angel investor. If you'd like to learn more about angel investing as a woman, be sure to register for Carbon13's virtual event THIS WEDNESDAY (March 13th), hosted by our founder, Cherry Swayne, alongside Tessa Clarke from Olio • Share More, Waste Less and Kelly Price from Agreed Earth. They'll be talking about their experiences and offering advice on how to get started. On the agenda: ⭐ How to become an angel investor - the important first steps ⭐ How to assess early stage climate startups on their future potential on carbon reduction and impact ⭐ Why climate tech is an investable sector where impact doesn't mean reduced returns ⬇ You can register at the link in the comments below. #WomenInInvesting #ClimateTech #AngelInvesting #femaleempowerment #femaleinvestors #funding #positiveimpact #climatetech #purposedriven #venturecapital #investment #diversityandinclusion

I spoke to 5 women founders who raised a combined $200M. Here is what they recommend to female climate founders raising capital today. 1. Bring a man on your team to the meeting. Men don't do it intentionally they just have seen many more men in investor pitch meetings. Cognitive bias is real. 2. Never apologise. Unless you've just spilled your entire coffee on the table, stop using the word “sorry"" in business meetings in general and during pitches in particular. Own every decision you have ever made with pride. Notice how women over apologise and men don't. 3. Make sure to have at least one male investor in your first round. Women-led firms whose first round of VC funding is raised exclusively from female VC partners are two times less likely – than those whose first round included male partners – to eventually raise a second round. 4. Answer the questions the investors don’t ask you. Show you know your industry in and out. Explain why. They don't know your secret sauce, you do. 5. Be exceptional at negotiation + remember confidence tends to equate to competence (in many people s mind). Once you arrive at the negotiating moment, be assertive and ask for what you think you deserve—even if you’re not certain that you can get it. Be prepared to defend confidently why you want these specific terms. Anything else I am missing? Please comment with your experience. Nice to bump into Marcello Palazzi at ChangeNOW - my now favourite impact event. — ☑️ Save this if you found it helpful ✍️ Sign up to my weekly newsletter to be unstoppable at fighting climate change by closing deals like a woman who rocks! Wow. That's the only word I can think of to describe this year's ImpactPHL Total Impact Summit (https://lnkd.in/ecaV8bSt). I am somewhat of an outlier at the event, which supports impact investors, fund managers, foundation and nonprofit leaders to learn from one another and build community. I attend every year to get to get an annual dose of optimism with integrity from some of the people who control money. This year did not disappoint! In my experience, it's pretty unusual to see an opening plenary to a room full of financial professionals discuss how important it is to be transformed internally in order to change what's happening out in the world. Or, to see a closing panel that challenges everyone in the room to confront their own power and how it can be exploitative. Many of the conversations in between were equally as inspiring, motivating, and hard. Super grateful for the realness of that. If you aren't following what Cory Donovan and his team are doing, check them out. #impactinvesting
