According to Statista, as of January 2024, the total number of professionally active physicians in the United States amounted to 1,100,101 physicians. From a state perspective, California had the most number of active physicians with over 119 thousand physicians, followed by New York. In the process of establishing robust clinical systems and medicalizing care, we can sometimes lose sight of the importance of agency, self-care, and self-control in musculoskeletal care. By using clinical modalities as a springboard toward greater self-care, clinical services should focus on empowering individuals for long-term self-care. This includes reducing uncertainty and equipping individuals with the tools they need for sustained self-management. When you are in the forest, don't forget to look at the trees.
