Today marks the end of my 4th week at Nvidia.
In the last week I had a few "wins" where I felt that I'm starting to actually bring value to the team. but also a few points when I felt I did not manage to keep my plan.
1. I received some complicated tasks to start driving, it feels good to have some "load" on my shoulders, something that can challenge me and, hopefully, provide the great feeling that every eng. wish for: a challenge to overcome.
I'm still very limited in the ability to preform alone - and need the excellent support I get from my team, but I'm starting to understand how things work and who can help.
2. I participated in several very interesting meetings. all of them included smart ppl. talking about familiar topics such as: speed of integrations, latency of compilation, quality of the DV Drops, usage of Coverage and the hardship of moving to new tools and UVM versions. I felt at home :)
3. in one of the discussions, with the team lead technical ppl. I felt that I failed to achieve my target: "listen before you talk".
I really had to fight the urge to give everyone my "brilliant ideas", "prefund insights" and define the direction based on "my experience and intuition". I had to remind myself over and over that I don't have any of these, I need to spend more time listening and learning. I somehow managed most of my plan, but found myself "leading" the discussion instead of "participating".
At least this was in a friendly faces, so not big harm done.
4. I had my 1st code review, and learned so much from it! I was lucky to have a patient reviewer that spent the time teaching me a lot about the way the Test Bench works. this is really an underappreciated way to learn. I hope to have many more in the future.
Next week will mark my 1st month at Nvidia - Stay Tuned!
