Learning First Aid skills is often seen as learning about practical skills such as CPR and how to put on a bandage and having a PowerPoint read to you. We are working hard to change this outlook and utilise the following approaches across the range of regulated First Aid at Work at Work, Paediatric First Aid at Work and learning CPR courses we deliver. 1) discussion based learning using real life experiences of the topics your chosen course covers, we use PowerPoint but are not PowerPoint lecturers 2) educating our learners about how delivering First Aid in the workplace fits into your organisation’s KPIs for Absence Management/Return to Work, Health & Safety reporting, organisational and personal development as well as legal compliance 3) teaching you how to apply the skills learnt on the course in a practical way 4) using technology to give you real time feedback on how well you are performing CPR to hone these potentially life-saving skills 5) enabling you to adapt the skills and knowledge learnt so you can act with confidence 6) showing how learning skills for life are not only beneficial in your workplace but also benefit your personal life We are members of the First Aid Industry Body (www.faib.co.uk) who ensure that the courses we deliver meet the criteria set by the Health and Safety Executive and the Department for Education inspectors. Get in touch with us to arrange the courses your workplace needs or undertake a course for your personal development.

Face to Face vs Virtual First Aid Training I have regular conversations with people who are looking for the cheapest possible training, and this can often be a virtual or blended learning option, neither of which I offer, due to wanting to provided the the best possible quality. In most cases your First Aid cover comes down purely to your First Aid Risk Assessment of Needs, that will ultimately will only be stress tested if you have a major medical incident or death in your workplace and the HSE investigate or you have to justify your provision in a coroners' court. As the HSE made clear in their latest update, the best way to ensure you are covered is by using regulated courses. I would add that with First Aid being a practical subject, F2F gives a better outcome, rather than clicking through some PP slides and doing a multiple choice test until you get it right, you can practice, discuss and cover the 'what if's' with an experienced professional. If money is the biggest driver, spend a little time contacting local trainers, rather than selecting the national network off of the top of google, and build a relationship that is mutually beneficial. There are plenty of trainers out there who are driven primarily by sharing knowledge, not getting rich!
