It was so very nice to catch up with the amazing Alexi Boyd, #PolicyStrategist and #SmallBusinessSpecialist at the "Connect and Collaborate " event with Ku-ring-gai Chamber of Commerce and Hornsby Chamber of Commerce event recently. We first connected back in around 2014, when I first took on a chamber presidency for a year and helped with growing the Hornsby Chamber of Commerce with a talented committee. It is hard to believe that 10 years has past and so much has happened over that time. What hasn't changed is how energetic and focused Alexi is to help small businesses. This is our connection, both passionate to help business owners in our own ways, to make their lives just that bit easier, more successful, more able to navigate the regulation requirements that are growing every day. Alexi is the host of Small Biz Matters who has interviewed hundreds of guests ,on a wide variety of topics, all to do with helping small businesses. Now, Alexi focuses on helping, at the highest of levels, with policy directions and decisions that make a significant impact. An incredibly energetic and caring #Strategist who is driving change to help small businesses. I'm back reinvigorating a second chamber, the Ku-ring-gai Chamber of Commerce with a talented committee. I help businesses with business development and presentations skills with The Speakers Practice to help get their message across, confidently connect with prospects and nail that deal. Running a small business is a huge undertaking, family and staff are depending on the business owner. Most professionals fall short in two areas as it relates to business development - 1) they don’t invest enough time in their personal branding, and 2) they don’t talk to enough potential buyers. As we wrap up 2024, let’s look into changing that. For starters, I want to hear from those in the legal and consulting markets on what associations and events was most worthwhile to you and why. Let’s share ideas and best practices. The pie is big enough to help others. I personally want to hear how associations such as the LMA and IBA have worked for folks. Today, I was at a business networking event at Cardiff City Stadium. On my way out, I noticed three luxury cars parked perfectly side by side, each with a QR code and price in the window. They weren’t just placed there by accident. This local luxury car dealer knew exactly who would be walking through that car park: footballers and business owners, their ideal clients. Instead of waiting for the right people to come to them, they’d strategically positioned their offer in a way that was impossible to miss. It reminded me of how often I see businesses missing opportunities when it comes to commercial contracts. Too many rely on a scattergun approach, bidding on anything they see, instead of focusing on contracts that truly match their strengths and target audience. Winning commercial contracts isn’t just about putting yourself out there; it’s about putting yourself in the right places with the right opportunities. Just like that car dealer, you need to identify where your ideal contracts are and tailor your approach to those spaces. When you align your strengths with the needs of the client, you’re not just seen, you’re relevant and ready to win.
