Our Hyundai Motor America employees volunteered at Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, CA to build a playhouse for @Cornerstone Christian Preschool in Fountain Valley last week. We were able to build, paint, draw, and assemble the playhouse from scratch, and I'm not the builder! It was so much fun doing this for the kids. Then, we were able to present this to this amazing school, also a nonprofit, that offers local families so many different programs. ** Special shout out to my 3 year old daughter, Bella, in the top left photo (in the middle) who got to play in the playhouse at school! Thank you to all the volunteers that came out for this special day. Thank you LaShawne Pryor, Ed.D for having us as at this year’s HBCU Philanthropy Symposium. It was great connecting with you, Meg Cline, Andrew Hibel and CJ I strongly believe that planned giving is prime opportunity for HBCUs - particularly life income gifts. Life income gifts, such as charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts, offer benefits for both donors and institutions: Benefits for donors: 1. **Regular Income**: Donors receive regular payments for life or a specified term. 2. **Tax Deductions**: Donors may receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction for a portion of the gift. 3. **Capital Gains Tax Savings**: Donors can often avoid capital gains tax on appreciated assets used to fund the gift. 4. **Estate Planning**: Life income gifts can help donors reduce their taxable estate and potentially pass more to their heirs. 5. **Philanthropic Impact**: Donors can support charitable causes they care about during their lifetime. Benefits for institutions: 1. **Stable Funding**: Institutions receive a reliable stream of income from the gift over the designated period. 2. **Donor Relationships**: Life income gifts can deepen relationships with donors and their families over time. 3. **Diversification**: Institutions can diversify their revenue sources by incorporating life income gifts into their fundraising strategies. 4. **Legacy Giving**: Life income gifts can help institutions build a pipeline of future support from donors who include them in their estate plans. 5. **Financial Sustainability**: These gifts can contribute to the long-term financial sustainability of the institution. Overall, life income gifts can be a win-win for both donors and institutions, providing financial benefits, tax advantages, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact through philanthropy. #ImpactforLifeIncomeForForever
We loved participating in planned giving conversations at the 2024 HBCU Philanthropy Symposium this week! A. Ahmad Berry and Denise T. Johnson, Esq., LL.M.T presented Planned Giving 2.0, and our client Meg Cline from the University of Illinois Foundation spoke on a panel about building university planned giving programs. We look forward to continuing the conversation around the need for life income gifts and legacy building at HBCUs. #plannedgiving #agiftthatpaysyouback #HBCUPhilanthropySymposium #HBCU

This morning, Mayor Nichols joined community leaders regarding a new partnership with the Housing Partnership Network (HPN), which will help strengthen Tulsa's affordable housing efforts throughout the city. The Housing Partnership Network is an award-winning nonprofit collaborative of 100+ of the nation's leading affordable housing and community development organizations. With the help of CDFI Friendly Tulsa, HPN selected Tulsa due to the City's focus on affordable housing. The Anne & Henry Zarrow Foundation also provided nearly $1 million in grant money to help launch this initiative.

🌟 Summer is the perfect time to give back to our community, aligning our business practices with our values and fostering a sense of purpose. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.” Let's identify community needs and find ways our business can contribute, whether through donations, volunteer work, or hosting community events. Engaging in these activities not only benefits those around us but also brings fulfillment and purpose to our team. 🌞 If you're not on my email list and would like to receive my newsletters - which cover tips for business owners on Mind, Body, and Spirit, please let me know... send me a DM! #CommunityInvolvement #GiveBack #FaithInAction #MLKJrQuote

#TBT The post that gets the most reads, year in and year out... "In a past blog, nonprofit leader Vu Le wondered if nonprofits and philanthropy have become the “white moderates” that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. warned about in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail. Le called out fundraising practices “centered entirely on making donors who are mostly white feel good about themselves” as one example of white-moderate behavior. His line of questioning also is meaningful for fundraising’s cousin: volunteerism. Time is a precious commodity. Its perceived scarcity has led many of us in the volunteer field to highlight feel-good stories to appeal to volunteers. Volunteering is good for your health! It promotes loyalty from employee volunteers! It gives nonprofits much-needed labor! Yet volunteerism can reinforce patterns of power and privilege (whites or people of means as volunteers, and communities of color or those without means as recipients) if we are not thoughtful about its design."
