🏡🇨🇦The federal government is investing billions in a new Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund to address the housing crisis. Provinces and territories must meet certain conditions to access the funding, such as allowing more types of homes and freezing development charges. Additional funding is also going to a housing accelerator fund. These measures are part of the government's efforts to tackle housing issues. What are your thoughts about this new initiative by the Canadian government?

As we're in the first leg of spring, the ON government released their budget yesterday. Of course you can imagine the provincial government recognizes that with Ontario's population growing at record pace not seen since the potato famine. Affordable housing solutions, specifically Modular infrastructure was mentioned multiple times. The ON government has created the $3B Building Ontario Fund to help finance affordable housing projects. Fero International Inc. has already received investment from the ON government and is primed to be a preferred modular manufacturer vendor. The Building Ontario Fund is creating a detailed process to ensure there is appropriate criteria for selecting projects and partners in priority areas i.e. Modular housing. Fero has already gone through this vigorous process and are in a position to ramp on capacity at any given notice. A % of that fund is set aside for ON First Nations communities and we are in active conversations with many communities to provide affordable housing solutions. Fero International is blowing by their Q1 projected purchase orders. Sabrina Fiorellino keeps executing at a pace not seen since the bluenose winning 17 straight times. Broderick Capital continues to facilitate meetings, please don't hesitate to reach out to learn more about the opportunity. https://lnkd.in/gcN6yQnj

This is the way Federal supports should be rolling out; housing connected to infrastructure. One of critical the reasons we’re in a huge national infrastructure debt is the past 70 years of low density sprawl. We’ve spread ourselves out on cheap farm and forest land and now we’re having to make up for those near-sighted decisions. Our challenge is to end sprawl completely and infill our neighbourhoods and cities across Canada.

🚀 Exciting News for Municipalities across Canada 🏗️ Today, the federal government of Canada announced a new $6-billion Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund aimed at tackling the housing crisis. What we love is the emphasis on the construction and upgrading of essential infrastructure, including water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste systems. This is a challenge we've heard ALOT of our clients and partners speak about, and it's nice to see some action. With $1 billion dedicated to municipalities for urgent infrastructure needs, the opportunity for impactful and sustainable development that goes beyond the immediate housing crisis is immense. BUT, there's a lot of areas where this could go wrong. If projects are rushed, communities could be left with infrastructure that's not resilient, fails to meet future needs, has unsustainable maintenance costs, or is just flat out poorly planned. Let's make sure these projects start on solid ground and work together to build a future where housing is accessible, and infrastructure meets the needs of our growing communities. A big day for federal infrastructure news! 🏘 🏗 🚍 🚰 The federal government is creating a new $6-billion Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund, which will go to the construction and upgrading of water, wastewater, stormwater and solid waste infrastructure, something cities have said is critical to building more housing. $1 billion will go directly to municipalities, and the remaining $5 billion will be unlocked as part of deals with provincial governments to make missing middle housing more viable in larger urban centres. If a provincial government doesn't reach a deal, the money goes directly to the cities. Building on the success of the Housing Accelerator Fund, another $400 million is being added to the HAF envelope. This will hopefully re-open the door to funding for municipalities that have ambitious housing plans. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eyTaYe9W

“Yes, Canada needs more housing, but to realize this goal, we need the necessary infrastructure — the water lines, streets, sewers, storm drains, and all the other essential municipal services — that make new homes possible.” Mary W. Rowe Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) report, "A Jump Start: Providing Infrastructure for More Housing," finds that the estimated cost of housing-enabling infrastructure across Canada averages over $100,000 per new home. Considering Canada’s housing targets, the report suggests there are likely hundreds of billions of dollars required to fund the housing-enabling infrastructure needed across the country. “Municipalities often face challenges financing the critical infrastructure they need to help unlock new housing developments, whether they are relying on municipal debt, property taxes, utility rates, government grants or levies on developers.” Ehren Cory Canada Infrastructure Bank/ Banque de l'infrastructure du Canada #infrastructure #housing https://lnkd.in/gmp_iF7H.
