Putting up shelves or curtains? Here are a few simple tips from @diytomm on how to identify different wall materials and what fixings to use on them. For plasterboard it's a good idea to spread the weight as much as possible, so fixings that open behind the board like Corefix Spike will be ideal. For solid walls like masonry, wall plugs are a good choice (Corefix One can also handle lighter loads in plasterboard!) Can You Guess What These Holes Are For? 🤔 So any guesses as to what this is? We've got lath and plaster walls with these mysterious holes. 🕵️♂️ Spoiler alert: these are exterior walls where the homeowners had insulation blown in. The little white spots are styrofoam backing. We're going to fill these holes and repair the wall. 🏠 Lath and plaster isn't like regular drywall, so you need to know what you're doing. We'll use a concrete fill with fibers, let it shrink a bit, and then apply regular drywall compound, which is easy to sand. 🔧 Have you ever seen this before? Worked with lath and plaster? In England, you sometimes find these "wave-shaped" brick fences. Although it may seem odd, this form uses LESS bricks than a straight fence. This is because a straight fence with only one brick is not stable enough to stand alone and can be easily overturned. This is why fences always have at least two layers of brick thickness and often more, and they are also reinforced at regular intervals with vertical posts that serve as support pillars. But a wavy "one-brick" fence stands out by the support of the arch offered by its shape, which combines the fence and support pillars.
