When it comes to access to health for women, the climate crisis is a key factor.
In her article featured in Healthcare World (BW Businessworld), Dr Anuja Tripathi (Dr. Anuja T.) highlights that, "In a world already marred by inequalities, the climate crisis exacerbates disparities in maternal health outcomes. Climate crisis affects women’s health through a multitude of mechanisms including extreme heat, poor air quality, and extreme weather events and these factors have a pivotal role in not only impacting their health outcomes but also subduing their access to timely health care services."
As we ramp up to International Women's Day, it is imperative we reaffirm our dedication to protecting maternal health in the face of the growing challenges posed by climate change.

World Economic Forum and McKinsey Health Institute presented a report in January 2024 at Davos that comprehensively explored and quantified health inequities faced by women:
🔦 While women on average live longer than men, they spend 25% of their lives in poor health thus creating a "women's health gap."
🔎 This gap equates to an annual loss of 75 million years of life due to health issues or premature death.
💡 Closing this gap would benefit 3.9 billion women and potentially boost global economy by $1 trillion by 2040!
🔆 More (statistically) compelling reasons to invest in women's health!!

There's also a webinar tomorrow that will explore this topic in detail. Do attend if you can!
Close Health Gap: A $1T Opportunity
Despite women living longer than men, they spend 25% more of their lives struggling with health problems - an average of nine years.
A startling revelation was the economic potential of addressing this gap. It could add a staggering $1 trillion to the global economy by 2040. This isn't simply a numerical figure; it represents an opportunity to transform lives and make a massive societal contribution.
Now, more than ever, we must put women's health at the forefront. The need for increased funding, extensive research, and significant policy changes is evident. Improving women's health isn't merely about women; it's about our society's overall well-being.
I urge my network to take action, working towards a world where 'people first' isn't merely a slogan, but a reality.

"Despite living longer than men, women, on average, spend 25% more of their lives in poor health. Much of this disparity can be attributed to the way science and healthcare have, for much of history, treated women as though they are small men. They are not."
