✨ What does self-empowerment mean to you? ✨ Recently, I had the privilege of speaking at the kick-off call for our Philips Women Lead Employee Resource Group (PWL ERG)— a global community where we support and uplift each other at Philips. Our focus for this event was self-empowerment, a topic that resonates deeply with me and has universal importance for women. As I reflected on this, I realized: I do feel self-empowered. Here’s how I nurture that feeling and how you can too: 1. Purpose: We all have a gift. Connecting with who I am, what I love to do, and what I’m good at makes my work and my life fulfilling. In my role in the People Function at Philips, I get to help others discover their light, take risks and build their connection with their gift, all united by our purpose at Philips to help improve other people’s lives. 2. Relationships: Honest, and mutually supportive relationships are key. Surround yourself with people who you admire and who believe in you, challenge you, and provide constructive feedback. Growth thrives in connection. 3. Independence: While my life is deeply enriched by these important relationships (family, friends and colleagues) I know that I am not dependent on them to be a happy and successful person- emotionally or financially. Fabia Tetteroo-Bueno shared a quote with me recently that sums this point up perfectly ‘A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because her trust is not in the branch, but her own wings” If this resonates, take time to create a plan and outline your steps to get there. 4. Balance: Taking care of my mind and body allows me to stay in control of my emotions and my life. Prioritize balance to keep your foundation strong. Self-empowerment isn’t a solo journey. Together, we can lift each other up and do the work of our lives here at Philips, to deliver better care for more people around the world. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on self-empowerment: How do you build and nurture it? Love this Megan. Purpose - Relationships - Independence- Balance. I’d add Learning but otherwise spot on from my experience too. 💜🙌
Couldn't have said it better myself! Thanks Megan for shining light on this topic on a not so shiny Monday.
Beautifully put. Our notions of strengths and weakness reside inside us, and we have the power to transform ourselves
You highlighted the most important key in my opinion Megan Giannini, when you say it isn’t a solo journey. All of the self-empowerment I have created for myself has come through the work with others. Whether that is formal training, coaching, friendships, being in community, it was always with others. Self-empowerment grows out of self-awareness. And we just can’t see ourselves clearly by ourselves. Trusted truth tellers can hold a mirror for us to see ourselves better. That’s something you do very well: a trusted truth teller.
I am grateful to have you as a colleague and peer - making me feel more self-empowered. Your perspectives, resilience, coaching and leadership are an inspiration to me every day - thanks Megan!
Thank you Megan Giannini for sharing. It's so wonderful to see a focus on self-empowerment within our Philips Women Lead Employee Resource Group (PWL ERG). Self-empowerment, to me, means recognizing and harnessing our inner strength and capabilities. It’s about believing in ourselves and knowing we have the power to shape our future.
Thank you for your continued sponsorship & championship in this space Megan Giannini. We are lucky to have you leading by example! I especially resonated with your point on Balance- when I feel my best, then I can show up as my best- in the way my team at Philips & PWL and my world needs me to be! Especially in times of rapid growth, supplemented by some creeping moments of insecurity, staying in balance makes me feel in control & grounded. Balancing growth with a strong foundation is key to self-empowerment. ❤️
Thank you Megan Giannini for sharing such a powerful and reflective perspective. For me, self-empowerment starts with clarity of purpose and surrounding myself with people who inspire growth through honest feedback and encouragement. Balance, as you highlighted, is also crucial—it fuels sustainability in our personal and professional lives.
Thanks for sharing your thought and experiences Megan Giannini. For me, building and nurturing self-empowerment starts with believing in your potential, setting clear goals, and taking consistent action while embracing challenges as opportunities for growth.

3wI love the quote with the bird. So true - we have to invest in ourselves. Reflecting on self-empowerment, three things come to mind: 1) Continue to invest in your education/learning 2) Investing in multiple legs to stand on (eg broad network) 3) Being kind to yourself (acknowledging what you are doing well and don’t be too harsh when making mistakes but rather appreciate the learning)
