*insert Tyrese crying gif* What is it that recruiters are looking for? Is it well written resume that passes ATS? Respected certifications or half a decade of experience for entry - mid level positions? It can be frustrating indeed, but seeing some of you flourish and persevere ignities my motivation! For those interested in SOC/security analyst opportunities, it's super beneficial to curate a relevant and practical technical portfolio. Thursday thoughts... I just saw a CISO role advertised on LI which had "over 100 applications" already (I'm assuming that is the max LI shows you) Let's say the number is potentially 5-10x that figure (if not more). Who has the time to sieve through 1000+ resumes? I'm also assuming the person looking through these resumes, is sourcing for jobs outside of cyber (probably many that are non-technical). And this is also only the population of candidates applying, what about finding the time to get referrals/or go approach passive candidates. If you are solely relying on job adverts and your internal model of application sorting, are you still feeling confident you are finding the best candidate for the job? #opentowork #hiring #cybersecurity #cyber #jobs #jobadverts

Well, good news: over the past few weeks, I’ve had more interviews than at any other point in my job search. Bad news: I still haven’t found anything that’s stuck yet! I’m staying focused and determined, especially on opportunities in cybersecurity, specifically IT privacy and GRC. If you know of any opportunities or would like to connect, I’d love to hear from you. Thanks to everyone who has supported me so far! #CybersecurityJobs #GRC #ITPrivacy #JobSearch #Recruiting #OpenToWork #LookingForOpportunities #HiringNow #TechCareers #ComplianceJobs #RecruitersConnect #CareerGrowth #Seattle #GRC

Is Your Job Posting Giving Away Too Much? The Hidden Risks of Passive Reconnaissance in Cybersecurity Hiring I was browsing through some cyber job postings, and it always made me dive deep into this topic. Cybersecurity professionals often think about how attackers can gather information without direct interaction. But have you ever considered how much passive reconnaissance we can do based on cyber job postings? When companies list positions, especially in cybersecurity, they inadvertently reveal information about their security posture. 🧐 Here's how: 🔍 Identifying Gaps: If a company is hiring for roles like #SIEM engineers, #SOC analysts, or #penetration testers, it suggests potential gaps in their security operations. The urgency of hiring may also indicate critical vulnerabilities. 🔐 Tech Stack Exposure: Job descriptions that specify tools like Splunk, Nessus, or AWS security services reveal the technologies the company relies on. This could expose their attack surface or indicate specific defenses. 📊 Policy Requirements: If postings frequently mention #compliance or #audit roles, this may indicate they are addressing recent regulatory needs or a past compliance gap, creating an opportunity for potential adversaries to exploit weak areas. 👥 Skill Demand: When companies seek individuals skilled in penetration testing, endpoint security, or cloud security, it highlights where they are focusing their security efforts, providing insight into the areas that might need further investment. The question is: Are companies exposing too much? 🤔 Job postings offer valuable information for cybersecurity professionals (and, unfortunately, attackers) to understand where security gaps exist or where upgrades are needed. While transparency is key to hiring the right talent, it's essential to strike a balance without giving away too much about the internal workings of your cybersecurity strategy. 💡 What's your take on job postings and the risk of passive reconnaissance? How can companies protect themselves while still finding top talent? Let’s discuss below! ⬇️ #Cybersecurity #JobPostings #PassiveReconnaissance #SecurityGaps #CyberThreats #InfoSec #Hiring #RiskManagement

"We don't need help hiring our vacant IT, Tech, Telecom or Cyber Security jobs. We have a recruitment system in place." The recruitment system : 😅 There's nothing more frustrating than watching a recruitment system fail to find you the ideal candidate you need time and time again. When you have a project that requires a specialised skillset and/or you have a tight deadline you need to stick to, you're sometimes left hiring a candidate that does your business and your team more harm than good. When applying for a SOC Analyst role, delete these from your resume! 1. Complete home address. 2. Date of birth. 3. Irrelevant work experience. Not only they're not important in the hiring process but you're also giving away sensitive information which is a no-no in this field. 👉 WHAT TO ADD THEN? 1. Relevant certifications. 2. Technical skills and experiences. 3. Tools that you are knowledgeable and experienced in using, not just exposure. Specify functionality, querying, features of these tools and how they have helped you in your job. 4. Your professional email address and contact number for the recruiter to reach you. 👉 PREPARE TO TALK ABOUT: 1. How are you applying the knowledge you have learned from current position, training and certifications? ❔What were the benefits? ❔Did it help you work on alerts faster/findings than before? ❔Did it help you improve the quality of your investigation? ❔Did you have projects implemented because of it? ❔New perspective? ❔Though process? 2. Your methods, processes in triaging and doing your investigation. ❔Phishing, lateral movements, enumeration, ransomware, suspicious / malicious activities, active attacks, and etc. 3. Showcase your OSINT skills and your favorite tools for analysis. ❔VT, Joe's, Abuse, Whois, etc. 👉 OTHER THINGS TO PREPARE: 1. Questions to ask. 2. Do your research so you can ask intelligent questions. 3. Use your past experience and determine what is it that you are looking for. ❗You need to know what you are getting into. Ask questions. ❗Make sure to ask the hiring manager to give you time to ask your questions. ❗Don't forget to showcase your soft skills too! 👉 If you have tips to share, make sure to add them in the comment. 👉 P.S > If you like these tips, follow me for more. #interviewtips #cybersecurity #infosec #jobinterview #socanalyst #securityoperations

When Entry-Level is Anything But: The Unrealistic Expectations for SOC Analysts In the cybersecurity world, Security Operations Center (SOC) Analysts are the first responders to security incidents. However, the expectations placed on these roles have become increasingly unrealistic. Many job postings require a laundry list of qualifications and experiences more suited to senior cybersecurity engineering positions rather than an entry-level SOC Analyst role. Companies often demand multiple certifications, years of experience, and advanced technical skills, creating a barrier for aspiring cybersecurity professionals. Such high expectations not only discourage potential candidates but also overlook the fact that those with such qualifications would be better suited for roles involving higher responsibility and pay, like cybersecurity engineers or architects. It’s time for companies to reassess and realign their job requirements to ensure that they are attracting the right talent for the right roles, without setting unreasonable standards that deter qualified but less experienced candidates. This would foster a more inclusive and effective hiring process, helping to bridge the cybersecurity skills gap and build a stronger, more resilient workforce. Let's bridge the gap between job requirements and reality. It's not just about filling positions; it's about fostering the next generation of cybersecurity defenders. What are your thoughts on this issue?
