This article proposes challenges related to #multi-#connectivity (#MC) in #non-#terrestrial #networks (#NTNs) are discussed, and solutions to the identified challenges. NTNs will complement #terrestrial #networks (#TNs) in #5G and beyond, which can be attributed to recent deployment and standardization activities. Maximizing the efficiency of #NTN #communications is critical to unlock its full potential and reap its numerous benefits. One method to make communications more efficient is by the usage of #multi-#connectivity (#MC), which allows a user to connect to multiple base stations simultaneously. It is standardized and widely used for TNs, but for MC to be used in the NTN environment, several challenges must be overcome. ----Mikko Majamaa More details can be found at this link: https://lnkd.in/gcEYNcQE

Everybody talks about individual mobility (ask a car guy like me 🤣 about it...) but I would not want to miss going longer distance by train. Being a foward-leaning telco / Ericsson guy myself, it seems quite awkward that there's something like GSM-R still around. You know it? No? GSM-R (Global System for Mobile Communications - Railway) was developed in the 1990s as a railway-specific version of #GSM to provide reliable, standardized mobile communication for train control and operational services across Europe. It enabled seamless cross-border communication and increased #rail safety by replacing a range of disparate analog systems with one unified digital network. The system became operational in 2000 and was adopted widely in Europe and other parts of the world. However, as a 2G technology, GSM-R now lacks the capacity and functionality to support modern data-intensive applications, making it increasingly inadequate for the demands of digitalized railway systems. Now it's time to move on. #5G is a strong successor to GSM-R due to its high data rates, low latency, and support for massive device connectivity, all of which enable advanced applications like real-time train monitoring, predictive maintenance, and autonomous train operations. In Europe, the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) is the project designated to replace GSM-R, using 5G to meet the modern operational and safety requirements of railways. Germany and the EU are focusing on pilot projects and spectrum allocation for FRMCS, with Deutsche Bahn and other partners actively testing 5G-based solutions to ensure a smooth, standardized transition across European networks. And Ericsson is a proven market leader in #FRMCS deployment and 5G rail technology. My main job is to help you validating such equipment: "Testing as a Service" from us at Ericsson, too: https://lnkd.in/eaHjFZQU Enjoy the read! #Sustainability #5G #RailCorridors #FRMCS #NetZero #TeamEricsson

In this study, the authors marry mobility and #time-#sensitive #networking (#TSN) by introducing a pioneering procedure that facilitates seamless roaming within a #Wi-#Fi-based Wireless #Time-#Sensitive #Network (#W-#TSN). Through extensive real-world development and testing, they assess various techniques for optimizing handover moment selection and reducing handover delay. Their findings demonstrate that an integrated approach combining #Received #Signal #Strength #Indication (#RSSI) and location-based online reduces the need for traditional channel scanning. ---- Pablo Avila-Campos, Jetmir Haxhibeqiri, XianJun Jiao, Ben Van Herbruggen, Ingrid Moerman, Jeroen Hoebeke More details can be found at this link: https://lnkd.in/gcYDM5bD
