Business Strategist, Leadership and Talent Management Advisor, Builder and Problem Solver

🌟 Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to connect with HR leaders in the pharma and biotech community at the Biocom California HR Conference, and what a dynamic exchange of ideas it was! I left energized, with many new insights and thought-provoking conversations with both new (Allison Hernandez, SPHR, Kaia Boyd, Kathy Zeng, Kristen Arnold, Mahi Saraf, MBA, (PHR®)SHRM- SCP, Judy Solecki, Brigitte Lindsay just to name a few) and familiar faces (Julia Corcoran and Cora Versaggi). The speakers truly captured the essence of what it means to lead in today’s fast-paced world, and I wanted to share some of the standout quotes that stuck with me. 🔑 On the role of HR: “Expertise in HR is expertise at organizational performance.” -- marianne jackson. This resonated deeply as HR leaders, we are driving the very engine of company success, shaping cultures that enable people to thrive and perform at their best. 💡 On working with CEOs: Also from marianne jackson: “I need to coach you and you need to coach me. We can’t have a power delta here. I’m here to help you be competitive and perform better.” This quote really reinforced the importance of partnership, where mutual coaching drives performance across the board. 🛠 On delivering results: “When results are easy to deliver, deliver results. When it’s hard to deliver, invest in the relationships that help you deliver the results.” --Shehnaaz Suliman, M.D. (MB ChB), M.B.A., M.Phil. Relationships are at the heart of what we do in HR, and this powerful reminder couldn’t have come at a better time. 💬 On communication and culture: “Communication in the course of change is about… listening. Really listening.” --Derrick Richardson “Managers should think of themselves as atmosphere designers.” --Stacey Porter These quotes remind us that culture doesn’t happen by accident. It’s about designing the right atmosphere and listening with intention. 👂 On empathy and ownership: “What the world needs more of is empathy.” Shehnaaz Suliman, M.D. (MB ChB), M.B.A., M.Phil. “You have to give people ownership. Not just empowerment. OWNERSHIP.” -- Jennifer Hairston True leadership is about giving others the space to own their success and be who they are—empathy and ownership go hand in hand in cultivating a strong organizational culture. ⚡ Finally, a favorite reminder of our mission as HR professionals: “Our job in HR is to drive capability, and to make something better.” --Judy Solecki I’m excited to take these insights back with me, share them with you, and continue building connections within this innovative community. To everyone I met —thank you for the conversations, ideas, and inspiration. Let’s continue to lead with empathy, collaboration, and a focus on performance! #BiocomHRConf #HRLeadership #Biotech #Pharma #OrganizationalDevelopment #Empathy #Ownership #CultureDesign #Collaboration #Leadership
