Final episode of series 7 Clare Laxton Researcher & Charity Leader I speak with Clare about her research of 135 domestic homicide reviews, where a woman was killed by her male intimate partner. In Clare’s research 🎙️46% of those women killed were aged 40 & above. 🎙️Over half weren’t known to the police. 🎙️Coercive control was a common theme. Clare’s research highlights the need for every single one of us to be part of the solution. We all know a victim-survivor. We all know a perpetrator of domestic abuse. Most victims conceal it from their family, friends and co-workers. Victims are usually threatened by their abuser in a form of emotional and or physical abuse. Most common threats from an abuser include; the threat to expose the victim's personal information on social media, calling their employer or friends, telling the victim that no one will believe them etc. These types of threats are a controlling tactic used by the abuser. Many of us that have not experienced this type of violence in our life often wonder' why doesn't the victim just leave and walk away from that "toxic relationship". “After a mass shooting, your community will become a circus of media, well-wishers, gun violence prevention groups, those wanting TV exposure to promote their own organization for fundraising opportunities, self described “experts” also wanting media attention, and inappropriate calls for museum archiving for temporary memorials before family members are even buried. You will also be inundated with calls from from community non profits from other mass shootings offering their “help”. 🚨 Still undecided on how to vote? Let me share my story. Under the current administration, I’ve been told I can no longer stay where I live because law enforcement *claims* I own firearms. As a veteran, I swore to defend the rights that include the Second Amendment, so my decision on who to vote for has never been clearer. What’s more shocking?
