Once considered the unpopular and neglected counterpart to men's leagues, women's sports now draw a new, profitable fan base. The excitement has been predominately centered around women’s basketball and soccer, which have shifted from being mainly grassroots-driven to attracting significant commercial investments. The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) is anticipated to reach revenues of up to $200 million this year, doubling its 2019 figures. Additionally, the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) saw a 33% year-on-year revenue increase in 2023. While the valuations of men's professional teams continue to rise, the commercialization of women's professional sports is in the early innings and has the potential to achieve extraordinary success. I always like a good sports analogy. Here’s my sports analogy for investing.  When you invest, decide how important your role on the team is. If you invest $100,000 into a $100million fund, the team doesn't need you. You are in their hands for good and bad. I have invested in these teams and seen office scandals, selfish choices, and overspending. All I could do is wrong my hands and watch. As a key player on the team you have a role in strategy.  You have a variety of options, when things don’t go as planned. I recommend only joining a few teams in which you are not important.  Everyone is more forgiving of bad investments, if they are calling the shorts.

The world of youth sports is full of opportunities—in travel, tech, clubs, research, training, and beyond. It’s exciting to see this space grow, but the journey for young athletes is as important as the destination. The numbers don’t lie: - Only 7% of high school athletes play in college, and fewer than 0.5% make it to the pros. - For women’s basketball, 4.1% of high school players compete in college, with only 1.2% reaching Division I. These stats show how tough the path is—but they also highlight where we can do more. Youth sports needs purpose-driven plans that enhance the entire journey—from the skills athletes gain, to the relationships they build, to the memories they create. If we focus on the process—not just the end goal—we can unlock even more opportunities while helping young athletes thrive both on and off the field.
