Is a smart watch or wearable coming to the Meta hardware product lineup? Meta is taking a big step forward in gesture recognition technology. They're tackling the challenge of reading body language without draining battery life. 💡🔋 A recently filed patent for “power-efficient processing of neuromuscular signals” to better track gestures. The key here is a smart two-detector system. First, a low-power detector identifies gestures using signals from a smartwatch. If it spots a gesture, the high-power detector then confirms it. This system helps reduce misreads and conserves battery life. Meta explains that processing these neuromuscular signals, especially for in-air hand gestures, usually requires a lot of power. By using a low-power detector first, they can save energy and only activate the high-power detector when necessary. This tech could be a game-changer for virtual, augmented, and mixed reality applications, making gesture controls more efficient and reliable. Exciting times ahead for #AR and #VR (and maybe more?) 🚀 #Meta #ProductDevelopment #TechInnovation

Meta has just unveiled its new Ray-Ban smart glasses, but reactions are divided. While the features seem promising at first glance, some experts are calling it a "bait-and-switch." In an interview with Business Insider, Omdia's George Jijiashvili explained that VR headsets are unlikely to ever achieve mass-market appeal in their current form. However, if Meta can successfully integrate AI with features like video capture, sound, and location context in its glasses, they could become a game changer. Is Meta really pushing the boundaries of wearable tech, or is this another move to pull users deeper into its ecosystem? Cornell researchers have developed a wristband device that continuously detects hand positioning and objects the hand interacts with using AI-powered, inaudible soundwaves. Potential applications include tracking hand positions for virtual reality (VR) systems, controlling smartphones and other devices with hand gestures, and understanding a user’s activities; for example, a cooking app could narrate a recipe as the user chops, measures and stirs. The technology is small enough to fit onto a commercial smartwatch and lasts all day on a standard smartwatch battery: https://lnkd.in/ejebPupR #technology #artificialintelligence #informationtechnology #technews #ai #digitaltransformation #research #softwaredevelopment #virtualreality

Meta has just introduced new AR glasses called 'Orion' – could this be Meta's iPhone moment? These glasses are not limited to just hand or voice controls. Meta is bringing back its EMG wristband, which they've been refining for years. This wristband reads muscle movements and nerve signals, enabling you to control the transparent AR glasses without even lifting a finger. With a transparent display and a 70-degree field-of-view, the glasses offer a much wider and more immersive AR experience. Headsets may soon become obsolete, replaced by sleek, practical eyewear that seamlessly merges the digital and physical worlds. Will these AR glasses make augmented reality as mainstream as the iPhone did for smartphones? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – the future is wearable. #ai #tech #meta #arvr #innovation

The Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, presented new augmented reality glasses at the company’s annual developer conference, debuting a prototype of the next phase in its expansion into smart eyewear - Orion. Meta believes eyewear will eventually replace smartphones, even though the production cost of the current prototype is approximately $10000. Meta also introduced Quest 3S, the latest mixed reality headsets, starting at $300. “This is the physical world with holograms overlaid on it.”, claimed Mark. Meta’s metaverse unit - Reality Labs, lost $8.3B in the first half of this year and $16B last year. As the current generation of large language models runs out of digital data to ingest and train on, we will likely see an explosion in the wearables category, which can provide crucial sensory data on how humans navigate the physical world. That, coupled with the stream of synthetic data generated by how we interact with AI-generated content, will be used to train the next iteration of Llamas. #orion #quest #meta #arvr https://lnkd.in/e2BXg3rY
