There was once a point when #women couldn't own property; now, women hold a growing proportion of the global #wealth. What's even more interesting is that the different approach they bring to their investments impacts the broader (and still male-dominated) #financial industry through impact #investing.   Impact investing is still widely considered a "niche" within the investing world. Last week in The Globe and Mail: VP of Business Development at Global X, Skye Collyer, MBA, points to the power of women in investment strategy. In her experience, women consider their investments deeply, “relating it to how they want to design or build their life in the future [rather] than just drilling down on which stock is winning or losing today.” Despite this reality, women still face "unspoken bias" in the world of capital markets. As someone who works in the GTM, VC and Private Equity space I am thrilled to see that the Invest in Women Taskforce have exceeded their funding target. (Target was £250 million). It's crucial because I see first hand the lack of all-female founded businesses receiving funding. Debbie Wosskow, OBE pointed out that they receive around 1.8% of total funding. And to make things worse this has decreased since 2023. Why should we care?? - To put it simply its SHOULD be equal, we shouldn't even need to be speaking about this - To educate and draw awareness e.g., to investors - It would help boost the economy - To boost innovation, so opens us more opportunities for investors - Encourages / gives confidence to more women to take the step in starting their own businesses Let's hope other companies follow in the footsteps of Morgan Stanley, Barclays and Aviva to support female founders and boost investment! This is a good start, but that's just it.....it's a START!! Changing the Narrative in Venture Capital The VC world is changing, and women are leading the way. There were only 12 women-run funds in 2010; today, there are almost 300. These funds invest in women founders at an average rate of 60%. Julie Castro Abrams believes that fueling these funds is key to changing the investment landscape.
