Kent Beck is a software engineer and author of the book Approaching A Minimum Viable Product. Why is it that people struggle to release projects? Or at least one of the reasons we procrastinate? "By far the dominant reason for not releasing sooner was a reluctance to trade the dream of success for the reality of feedback." ------------------- I'm not saying this is easy. But once you learn to crave feedback, you're setting yourself up for success. If a recurring reflex is to avoid or discount feedback, it makes you human. But it will inevitably hold you back. ------------------- It's worth saying that not all feedback is equal. A CEO once told me that his creative department was "Highly opinionated, barely invested." 🤣 Feedback patterns I've learned to watch for: ❌ Avoiding feedback ❌ Discounting it because you don't like it ❌ Only seeking it from people who you know will like it ❌ Taking the feedback personal when it might not have been intended that way ------------------- I'd like your feedback on this post! I love getting feedback, but one thing that I was told was that when I would get feedback I would look defeated. I would put my head down and get into deep thought. This made it so people were cautious about giving me feedback because they didn't want me to beat myself up over it. Some advice I got was to look at things as opportunities and I started to tell myself "okay, okay Im going to make this better, Im so grateful this person has brought this to my attention so I can be more successful and now whats gonna be my game plan" I HAVE to tell myself this otherwise I get lost in the rabbit hole of what could I have done better when this person is LITERALLY giving me a solution or thought on it so I should just listen and game plan. #Leadership #Empowerment #Feedback #Opportunity #SelfAwareness #Development #Teamwork #TransparentLeadership

Have you ever put a t-shirt on backwards? Or even worse backwards and inside out? The first time I led 5S it felt just like that. Something wasn't right. I had all the right components, but it just felt off. I thought "Isn't this just a cleaning exercise? How is this different than anyone else just organizing and cleaning their space?" The team asked me for guidance, clarity, something that would bring more meaning. I repeated the 5S's and let interpretation run wild. I had so much to learn!
