Summer Food Safety: Ensuring the safety of food can be challenging this time of year because temperatures are warmer. Remember to keep food out of the temperature danger zone of 4°C to 60°C (40°F to 140°F). Harmful bacteria can grow in as little as two hours in this temperature range. FOOD SAFETY CULTURE NUDGE OF THE WEEK: Bahamian Teamwork Ever imagine yourself on a beach in the Bahamas? I didn’t until last week, and now I can’t think of anything else. Soft sand between your toes, crystal blue water lapping at the shore, a pina colada in each hand, snorkeling with the stingrays and swimming with sea turtles.... sounds idyllic, right? Well, achieving food safety excellence can be just as fulfilling! ️Those breathtaking Bahamas beaches rely on a delicate balance. The crystal-clear water thrives because of healthy coral reefs, the sand stays pristine thanks to the ocean currents, and tourists enjoy it all because of lifeguards keeping everyone safe. It's all about different parts working together! In our facilities, it's the same. Just like the Bahamas ecosystem, we all have our roles to play in ensuring food safety. From sanitation keeping our equipment sparkling clean to production following proper procedures, we're all part of a bigger picture. When we work as a team, communicating concerns and helping each other out, we create a strong "food safety reef" that protects our product and our customers. Remember, even the smallest grain of sand (a missed cleaning step) can disrupt the whole beautiful Beach (our food safety standards). So, let's keep that teamwork spirit flowing! By working together, we can achieve that crystal-clear food safety record and keep our customers happy and healthy – just like a perfect Bahamian vacation! PS - next time I'm staying on Rose Island. The wild pigs treated me good, and there was NO CELL SERVICE. 🤣 #foodsafetyculture

During my recent flight on Air India Express from Calicut to Riyadh on Monday, 16th September 2024, I observed some concerning food handling practices. The cabin crew was serving food and beverages without gloves, often touching the inner side of cups while serving coffee and tea, and handling mixing sticks with bare hands. Additionally, the same hands were used to handle cash, swipe machines, tissue paper, and the food cart. As someone deeply involved in the food industry, this raises serious concerns about the lack of proper hygiene training onboard. Handling food and cash simultaneously can easily lead to contamination, which is a clear breach of basic food safety protocols. It appears that the crew may not be fully aware of the critical importance of food safety, especially in a confined environment like an aircraft. I wonder: - Have others noticed similar lapses in food handling practices on flights? - Are airlines neglecting crucial food safety standards? It would be beneficial for airlines to provide comprehensive training to their crew on hygienic food handling practices. This not only protects the passengers but also ensures the airline’s adherence to global food safety standards. What are your thoughts? Have you encountered similar situations, or do you have insights into the food safety protocols on flights? Let’s start a conversation about ensuring higher standards in the food service industry, even at 30,000 feet!
