Each year, Mansfield ISD honors a community partner who goes above and beyond to positively impact the lives of students, staff, and the district. The 2024 Ambassador of Education award was presented to Randall Canedy. Randall Canedy served as a school board member, where he passionately advocated for students, educators, and parents, ensuring their needs were met and their voices heard. He remains active in the MISD community by serving on committees, mentoring, and more. "His love for the kids and families of MISD shines through everything he does - they always come first," said Dr. Cantu. "Randall is more than deserving of being named Ambassador of the Year."

I spy with my little eye something familiar in this picture- front and center! I love seeing my book, Support and Retain Educators of Color, used in the context of pushing forward institutional change. I wrote this book not as a cute intellectual exercise but a how-to guide for education and organizational leaders to cultivate workplaces that affirm and retain educators of color. This Friday, I will be presenting insights from my book surrounding affinity group implementation at Center for Black Educator Development Black Men in Education Convening. See you there? #education #equity #BlackMenInEducationConvening #BMEC2024 #Blackteachersmatter

The Role of Eton's Legacy in Resolving Royal Feuds At Eton College, where the ethos of brotherhood and lifelong bonds are instilled from the very beginning, the ongoing feud between two royal alumni starkly contrasts with the values taught within these historic walls. Eton has always been more than a school; it is a cradle of leadership and camaraderie, preparing its students to uphold a legacy of unity and mutual respect, traits expected of its distinguished graduates. The reason generations of families have entrusted Eton with the education of their sons is not solely for academic rigor but for the deeper lessons in integrity and unity. The school's foundational principles, encapsulated in the "old school tie," emphasize solidarity and discretion, urging its community to support each other unconditionally and to live up to the examples set by the great men who came before them. As two of Eton’s most notable alumni find themselves at odds, it is crucial to remember the speeches and teachings that marked their formative years. These teachings encourage resolution and understanding, not conflict. It falls upon their fellow Etonians, who share the same formative education and values, to remind them of their common ground and shared responsibilities. In times of discord, the true strength of the Etonian bond must come to the forefront. The community is uniquely positioned to mediate, guided by the very principles imparted to them at school. For if there is any group that can bridge this divide, it is those who were schooled in the same traditions and are bound by the same lifelong codes. The spirit of Eton calls for unity and reconciliation. It is imperative for all involved to reflect on the heritage that shaped them and to act in a manner that upholds the honor and history of their esteemed alma mater. History is indeed watching, and it is through these moments of trial that the true values of Eton can shine through. #EtonCollege #RoyalReconciliation #OldSchoolTie #EtonianValues #Unity #Heritage #Leadership

Our Executive Vice President of Strategy, Duanecia Evans Clark, recently testified in support of H.B. 5436 and SB 380, highlighting the urgent need for reform in educator certifications and school discipline. We're pushing for teacher certification processes that prioritize recruiting and retaining diverse educators, as well as fair and developmentally appropriate discipline policies. Our goal is to ensure that schools are equipped with culturally competent teaching staff who can implement these policies effectively. With most districts in the state having less than 5% educators of color despite a student body that is over half students of color, it's clear that change is needed. Research shows that all students benefit from learning from Black teachers during their elementary education. At FaithActs, we're actively using our voices to advocate for meaningful change in Connecticut's education system. By advocating for these bills, we aim to improve education outcomes for children in Connecticut. Visit https://bit.ly/49XMh4z to read more about our recent testimony.
