TikTok’s growth in the past couple of years, particularly among the younger generation, has sparked discussions about whether it will become the next top platform for discovering new products. We have also seen different industry reports and graphs that reflect the rapid rise of TikTok’s users, the app’s downloads, revenue growth, and more. Despite having many Gen Z individuals turning to TikTok to explore new products because of its authentic content, reviews, and interactive nature, yet Google still dominates Gen Z search habits, according to a recent study by Axios. 46% of internet users aged 18-24 begin their online queries on Google. 21% of Gen Z users start their searches on TikTok, while 5% begin on YouTube.   While social media is influencing the product search habits of the younger generation, traditional search engines like Google still dominate. What is your go to platform for product searches? #google #tiktok #search #socialmedia #genz

Did anyone notice that the quick downfall of TikTok came into affect after people voted for the comeback of Vine on Elon’s Twitter Poll. Without TikTok in place it’s time for the old King of short form videos to rise! 👑

No platform will remove Google as the first search engine except the platforms using AI, that's why Google launched their new feature SGE (Search Generative Experience) to stay ahead of the curve because they know that this day is coming. On the other hand, we can't ignore the influence of TikTok & other social media regarding brand awareness.

Maha Fascinating shift! 𝐓𝐢𝐤𝐓𝐨𝐤 is reshaping discovery, yet Google's dominance shows old habits persist. I blend both—Google for depth, TikTok for trends. 🌐📱 How about Perplexity? It's revolutionizing internet searches. #TikTokTrends #DigitalDiscovery

Thank you Maha, I really appreciate how you frame this with stats and numbers to show the new trend. I totally agree about Google still dominates Gen Z search habits. but the 21% is ringing a bell for future Marketing campaigns. noticing that YouTube is only 5%. The marketer should now have a look at the top recent statistics before planning and budgeting any new campaigns, for a better targeting. do you have a source for such very updated stats for UAE?

Very interesting insights Maha, I believe for many people, Google is often the go to for a wide range of queries due to its comprehensive search capabilities and extensive database. On the other hand, platforms like TikTok and YouTube are preferred by those who are looking for visual content, user reviews, and how to guides, especially among the Gen Z who value authenticity and community recommendations. Ultimately, the best platform for searches can vary greatly from person to person. It’s about finding the one that aligns with your needs and preferences.
