Meet Yoshihiko Yamada, JERA Americas’ Employee Spotlight for this month. We asked Yamada-san a few questions about himself and what it is like to work at the Company. Vestas has just released our financial report for the first quarter of 2024. I am encouraged to see improvements in our underlying business performance and Vestas maintaining our industry-leading position, despite an uncertain market environment. Both are an outcome of my 30,000+ colleagues’ hard work, focus and continued support from our partners and shareholders. Thank you for your efforts and dedication. While today’s results show positive indications for Vestas to get back on track, our business environment continues to be challenged. High volumes of potential projects continue to be stuck in permitting bottlenecks, with auction designs and a lack of industry maturity continuing to challenge project economics. In certain markets, however, we also welcome the needed decisions and changes like in recent quarters in Germany. After a challenging last year, where dedication and discipline brought Vestas back to profitability, the road ahead demands that we focus on commercial and executional discipline and building industry maturity. I look forward to driving this forward, together with the team and our stakeholders across the global energy landscape.

This week I attended the launch event for DNV - Energy Systems ETO for Spain. One of our panels focused on the critical role that DEI plays as an accelerator in the energy transition. My key takeaways are: 1. Job opportunities within the sector far exceed the size of the talent pipeline. The sector must do more to demystify career pathways, skills and qualifications needed, and especially to those groups not traditionally represented. 2. Many of the barriers to the energy transition; policy, social resistance and adaptation to new behaviours, could be alleviated by greater inclusion and engagement of all communities. 3. Businesses within the sector have ambitions to be relevant long into the future. DEI is driver of business performance and a value, and that commitment should outlast short-term political headwinds. 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 Over the past two days, Horizon Flevoland had the pleasure of hosting the Invest in Holland Academy, a programme designed for new colleagues within the Invest in Holland network to enhance their knowledge of international business acquisition. As part of the programme, we organised a visit to the Maxima power plant operated by ENGIE in Lelystad, in the Provincie Flevoland. The participants were given an insightful presentation and a tour of the plant. The Maxima power plant plays an important role in the Dutch and European energy landscape, contributing significantly to energy security and economic growth in the Netherlands. ENGIE is also actively involved in the energy transition by enabling the use of hydrogen as an alternative to natural gas in its power plants. In addition to its two power plants, ENGIE operates a solar farm and is developing a battery park. The new battery park will allow locally generated renewable energy to be stored and dispatched when needed, playing a key role in the integration of sustainable energy sources into the grid. The #IRA has created over 330k jobs and counting, 75% of which won’t require a 4-year degree. In addition, clean energy jobs grew at twice the rate of overall US employment in 2023 and can result in an 8-19% income increase.   And states and cities are primed for even more clean energy jobs, especially if they pursue the industries most feasible for their region. The Clean Growth Tool shows every metro area in the US which clean energy industries are most likely to thrive there, and where workforce gaps exist. https://lnkd.in/ew_Kk8YQ   But who will fill those jobs? This is where workforce development, training, and apprenticeship programs come in that can train skilled workers in these growing industries, and why the US Climate Alliance, a bipartisan coalition of governors, just announced a commitment to support 1 million workers in completing Registered Apprenticeships by 2035, aiming to catalyze a diverse workforce and expand career pathways.   By bringing all these elements together and aligning clean energy goals with workforce strategies, policymakers and economic development organizations can attract investment and create jobs, workers can develop stable career pathways and transform their lives, and clean energy project developers can utilize more federal incentives, allowing clean energy to be deployed faster.   To learn more about why workforce programs are so important and why a cohesive strategy to align goals can maximize benefits, check out our latest article: https://lnkd.in/eBMtmZ58
