Is your financial data safe? Truist Bank's recent confirmation of a cyber breach, with stolen data surfacing on a hacking forum, raises critical concerns. Formed from the merger of SunTrust Banks and BB&T, Truist is a major player in U.S. commercial banking, boasting $535 billion in assets and a wide service portfolio. Reports indicate a threat actor, 'Sp1d3r,' is offering data allegedly containing details of 65,000 employees and sensitive banking information for $1 million. Despite efforts to contain and investigate the breach, questions linger about the extent of data compromised and potential impacts on security protocols. Here are my 2 insights about the incident: 1️⃣ The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by financial institutions in safeguarding against sophisticated cyber threats. Continuous investment in robust security measures and proactive monitoring are imperative to mitigate risks. 2️⃣ Truist's proactive approach in collaborating with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement highlights the importance of transparency and swift action in responding to data breaches. Clear communication with stakeholders is crucial to maintain trust amid such incidents. Stay informed and vigilant about cybersecurity measures in an increasingly digital world. How do you think financial institutions can enhance their cybersecurity strategies to better protect sensitive data? Give me a club to handle them all ! Discgusting to see, how many banks still use outdated security measures despite being prime cyber-attack targets? Just last month, Truist Bank suffered a data breach because of unpatched systems. Hackers accessed and offered for sale data including bank transactions and employee records. It’s baffling that such critical institutions aren't prioritizing advanced cybersecurity frameworks. Is this Leadership issue and Poor Governance. It’s time for the banking sector to step up and invest in modern solutions to safeguard their assets and customer trust. #Cybersecurity #Banking #GRC #Governance https://lnkd.in/ggwm49me

There is significantly more to Cybersecurity than most Bank Executives and Boards of Directors realize. "Key steps banks must take to protect themselves against the new, more vigorous cyber threats include implementing robust third-party risk management, identity and access management, threat and vulnerability management, and data-protection programs, conducting communications and awareness campaigns, and ensuring technology is up-to-date with the latest releases." https://lnkd.in/ejmHY44Q #FinTech #AI #GRC #Cybersecurity #DataPrivacy #Mortgage #RegulatoryCompliance #AI #ArtificialIntelligence

💥 In late June, the LockBit ransomware group falsely claimed they would leak 33 TB of data from the Federal Reserve, amidst crackdowns by international law enforcement and the exposure of their leader. However, analysis later revealed the leaked data came from Evolve Bank & Trust, not the Federal Reserve. Evolve Bank & Trust responded by investigating a potential breach affecting customer personal information, reassuring that their retail banking services remained unaffected. The confusion arose from a recent Federal Reserve Board enforcement action against Evolve, which cybercriminals may have misconstrued. Despite LockBit's claims, cybersecurity experts doubted the legitimacy of the Federal Reserve breach. Following the crackdown, LockBit has resurfaced as a major ransomware threat, though questions persist about the accuracy of their reported victims. TechCrunch recently posted about the Evolve Bank compromise where hackers dumped customers' personal information online when Evolve refused to pay a ransom. The fact is that ransomware has evolved and double extortion attacks like this one are especially threatening since your business may have made the investment necessary to recover compromised data, but that same data is in the hands of the attacker and no amount of backup system investment is going to claw it back from the criminals that have it. Even if Evolve had paid, those attackers would still have the data, and would most likely sell it on the dark web. Preventing exfiltration is hard and it starts with good Zero Trust design from the start. I would highly recommend you reach out to my colleagues Heidi Shey and Allie Mellen about what you need to minimize the risk of data leaks, and detecting and addressing breaches. Then come talk to me about recovery and your overall data resilience strategy. #ransomware #doubleextortion #zerotrust #dataresilience https://lnkd.in/e6D-iHGY
