Hacker Breaches CISCO, Leaks Data on Dark Web The “IntelBroker” hacker has reportedly launched a successful cyber breach of CISCO, with 2.9 gigabytes of files from their DevHub platform being leaked onto the dark web. CISCO has noted that customers of Cisco CX Professional Services are likely impacted. According to Forbes, “The leaked data reportedly included source code, certificates, and internal documentation tied to Cisco products such as Catalyst, IOS, WebEx and Secure Access Service Edge.” IntelBroker claims that they hold up to 4.5 terabytes of data to be leaked. Meta Has Been Fined Over $250M After A Major Data Breach Current estimates place Meta’s 2018 data breach as having affected nearly 30 million users, of which 3 million were based in the EU. After a lengthy investigation, the company has now been hit by a $263M fine via the EU’s GDPR policy. This comes on the back of a major $100M fine which Meta faced in September due to a similar security breach involving their users’ passwords. The Texas Tech University system has suffered a major data breach, with the sensitive information of nearly 1.5 million patients of their health center being compromised. In their announcement, the university’s Health Science Center (HSC) noted, “The investigation confirmed that a cybersecurity event caused the technology issues, resulting in access to or removal of certain files and folders from the HSCs' network between September 17 and September 29, 2024." The cyber-attack was claimed by the Interlock ransomware operation, which allegedly stole 2.1 million files totaling 2.6 TB of data. This information now seems to be available on the dark web and allegedly includes SSNs, financial information, medical information, and more. PIH Health Downey Hospital, PIH Health Whittier Hospital, PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles as well as the urgent care centers, doctors' offices, and a home health and hospice agency operated by PIH were all hacked on December 1, 2024. In a typewritten letter allegedly faxed by the cyber criminals late last week, the hackers claim they have retrieved 17 million patient records, including confidential personal and medical information. In their letter, the hackers claimed PIH’s network is “highly vulnerable,” with data stored insecurely on computer servers. Users of Meta products like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp reported over 190,000 outages starting at 12:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. As per the website Downdetector, as of 1 p.m., 100,000 Facebook users were reporting issues, mostly with the app. More than 70,000 users reported issues on Instagram. And for WhatsApp, more than 12,000 issues were reported. Some Facebook users are seeing a query error when trying to access the social media platform. This error is known to happen when Facebook fails to fetch data from Meta's server. It can also be triggered by app or browser glitches and is usually out of the user's control. Instagram's official account on X posted a message saying that they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix. Electrica Group, a leading Romanian energy services company has announced that it is facing an ongoing cyberattack. The company which is publicly listed on the Bucharest and London stock exchanges and provides energy to more than 3.8 million customers in Romania, published a note to investors on Monday warning of a "cyberattack in progress.” There were disruptions to consumers due to “protective measures for internal infrastructure.” The company said that these measures are temporary and are designed to ensure the security of the entire system. Speculation is rife that the cyberattack is the handiwork of pro-Russian hackers. Last week Romania annulled its presidential election over alleged Russian interference. The social network X (formerly known as Twitter) suffered a major outage in Spain that left many of its users without access to the platform for several hours since Sunday. The outage appears limited specifically to Spain, especially in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and Zaragoza. The first reports started at around 7.30 pm on Sunday. 72% of the problems reported by users on the website Downdetector were related to website access. A sophisticated Android malware called DroidBot is targeting banking apps and cryptocurrency platforms, putting users’ financial data at serious risk. The DroidBot uses advanced techniques to bypass security measures and steal credentials. This malware has alarmed cybersecurity experts with its advanced capabilities and its integration into a malware-as-a-service (MaaS) model, targeting financial and governmental institutions. The malware configurations, debug strings, and even inadvertent details from shared screenshots suggest links of the DroidBot to Turkey.
