Yew! What a morning we had yesterday! Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation with Sian and Eduardo (and the star of the show, Neo) and hit us with fantastic questions during our kickoff event of the "Culture Can’t Be Fixed" series. Here are just a few of the golden nuggets from the discussion on ‘Prioritisation and the Busyness Trap’: - Culture is like a shadow, you can’t change it but you can influence it. - When work gets done based on capacity rather than by strategy, the meaning of work gets lost and we fall into the “Busyness Trap” - Prioritising what matters is identifying what’s the right work, done at the right time, by the right people. - Making room for what really matters involves being nimble with our planning, rather than sticking to a plan as if it’s set in stone. -Embed a mindset of experimentation with shorter cycles of planning (90 days) time to pause and reflect and bigger buckets for bets -Make sure your KPIs are org wide not individual - the broader they are, the greater flexibility you have to pivot or stop what’s not serving the purpose anymore. -Bring awareness to your personal mindtraps, by thinking about them differently, you not only free time for yourself, you help others grow and your system evolves. It was great to have a day away from the desk to enjoy Capacity’s Fundamentally Different event last week at the Bluecoat. There was so much food for thought… James Plunkett promoting the questions: How often do we change the problem to fix the machinery, rather than seeking a true solution? How do we work with a sense of urgency but not emergency to avoid burnout? How to do we embed new ways of problem solving for our modern world that are: ↔️ Relational, ♻️ Iterative, 📍 Place-based, ❤️ People-centric, and 🤖 More tech, more human? 💬The expert panel wonderfully hosted by Liz Cross, which included the vast array of experience from Naomi Hulston, Elizabeth Hartley, Kate Ardern and Phil Porter. ⚡️The lightning talks showcasing innovative ways of thinking and operating by Open Door , LCR Civic Data Cooperative, Yonder and Kindred LCR - all doing LCR proud! 💡And last, but not least, the We Are Juno CIC workshop I was able to join which demonstrated just how much grit and determination is required to challenge the status quo, including how critical it is to find funding partners that are aligned in vision and values. There was a lot to take in and it was energising to chat to numerous other people working in this space. It definitely feels like there’s some growing overlap in the mindsets re the approaches to strengthening the third sector vs private sector businesses operating as a ‘force for good’. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out over the coming years.

'The Crisis Hangover' is a term coined to describe the current feelings of confusion, vulnerability, blues, isolation and general 'meh' of the nation. The LB team didn't stop there: after explaining the misery of nation in a crisis hangover, they offered solutions and hope for brands and communications agencies. Carly Avener, Tom Sussman, Josh Bullmore + the amazing panel - Caitlin Moran, Nishma Patel Robb and Dr Julia Ebner - discussed cures for the crisis hangover. So that we left with a sense of optimism and solution-focussed ideas. This dynamic duo have done it again 😎 A great final edition of Performance North last night, with one of the most insightful panels I've ever listened too. With guests including Harriet Tuite, Nick Handley, Tomasz Abbott-Wieczorek, Chris Howard and Emma Henderson MCIM, this was a star studded lineup not to be missed! Some of my key highlights: 👉 Find your North Star. Concentrate on the metrics your client is obsessed with, not the ones that skirt round the edges 👉 Get more data. No not just from the platforms and your bosses' opinion. Hold focus groups, ask real customers, find out what they want, what they thought, what they need. 👉 Creative should make up 70% of your efforts. Everyone is using PMAX, bidding strategies, AI. Creative is limitless and will set you apart (This is what I'm laser focussed on this quarter!) 👉 Learn from other channels, never stay in your lane. This one resonated with me for sure 👉 Find your people. When you get a funny look when you're asking a questions, you're asking the wrong person not the wrong question! My final favourite.. 👉 No one platform is correct. They're all wrong. A version of the truth. Instead look at your Marketing Efficiency Ratio. ie total sales v total marketing spend. And the controversial one 😅 👉 Don't trust Google reps 👀 What scared me the most was Tomasz Abbott-Wieczorek's prediction that we could be seeing the end of match types 😱 What would you die on a hill on? The best question from Lee Benecke which sparks the best answers.
