World Mental Health Day was established on October 10, 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health. Observed annually, this is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. This year's theme, ‘It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace’, is a powerful reminder that our workplaces must foster mental well-being. With 60% of the world’s population in employment, creating healthier work environments isn’t just essential for productivity—it’s a matter of public health and inclusion. Let’s commit to making workplaces safe, supportive, and stigma-free spaces where everyone can thrive—because mental health should be a priority, not an afterthought. Our diverse Australian population makes addressing mental health from a gendered perspective complex. This week is women’s health week & we want to shine a light on women’s mental health and wellbeing. No two women are the same, and their mental health experiences are shaped by factors like genetics, biology, age, gender, culture, environment, lifestyle, and life experiences. However, we do know that certain mental health issues, such as anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, non-suicidal self-injury, and depression, are statistically more common among women. By recognising and responding to the signs of developing, worsening, or crisis-point mental health problems, we can better support the women in our homes, schools, workplaces, and the wider communities. Let’s have the conversation, are you okay and if not how can we help? #frontlinementalhealth

Let's Talk Mental Health! I'm a firm believer in the importance of mental health, which is why I proudly support initiatives aimed at making mental healthcare accessible to all. At OKB Hope Foundation, we're dedicated to this cause through our Wohohiame Wellness Initiative. We provide crucial mental health education and resources to empower youth to navigate life's challenges with confidence. But that's not all—we've taken it a step further by creating an online educational platform. This platform serves as a beacon for mental health awareness and education, reaching even more individuals in need. Why am I so passionate about this? Because I believe that mental health is just as vital as physical health. Everyone deserves access to the support and resources necessary for their well-being. By championing awareness, education, and accessibility, we're breaking down barriers and fostering a community where mental health thrives. Join me and OKB Hope Foundation in our mission to prioritize mental health. Together, let's create a world where everyone feels supported and empowered to prioritize their mental well-being.

World Mental Health Day (10 October) is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH). Chosen through a global vote involving WFMH members, stakeholders, and supporters, this year's theme, "It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace", is a call to action that resonates worldwide. With over 2000 participants from 116 countries, the selection process was truly inclusive, and the resulting theme reflects the awareness of an urgent need and profound opportunity. Mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety, are pervasive in workplaces globally, impacting productivity, attendance, and overall performance. When left untreated, the staggering economic cost is estimated at US$1 trillion annually by the WHO.

Navigating Mental Health Perceptions in England In England, discussions surrounding mental health have gained traction in recent years, yet nuanced perceptions persist. Recognising Progress Initiatives like Time to Change and Heads Together have catalysed open dialogue, combating stigma and encouraging help-seeking behavior. Persistent Stigma Despite strides, stigma remains a barrier to mental health acceptance. Cultural factors also influence perceptions, requiring tailored support approaches. Addressing Disparities Mental health perceptions vary by demographics, exacerbating disparities in care access. Inclusive education and advocacy are crucial for bridging gaps. Educational Imperatives Integration of mental health awareness into education and workplace training programs is vital for fostering supportive environments. Advocacy for Change Continued advocacy efforts are essential for challenging stigma and driving systemic improvements in mental health care. Moving Forward Empathy, understanding, and commitment to positive change are key in destigmatizing mental health and fostering a society where well-being is valued for all. Conclusion With ongoing dedication, we can create a future where mental health is prioritised without fear of judgment, fostering a more compassionate society. www.purpledogltd.co.uk 01484 546780 [email protected]

A couple of months old now, but sharing the latest Deloitte Research on Mental Health and Employers, which is the 4th edition of this research. This research shows that the cost of poor mental health to UK employers is now 8% lower than in 2021 suggestions we are starting to make progress to the lives and wellbeing of our teams and colleagues. This should be celebrated, but there is still a lot to do to keep this momentum going and continue to invest in recognising what is impacting employee mental health and what we can do as organisations to continue to positively impact this. There is a real focus in this research on the link between the mental health of children and young people and the influence on working parents and this is where organisations can play a key part in supporting these individuals through flexibility, providing additional support and creating a culture where parents can talk about these challenges.
