Calculating ABV in a Cocktail Drink In order to calculate the ABV of your cocktail drink, you need to break it down by component. Let’s look at two common drinks to see where they shake out, a Negroni and a Long island. A Negroni is : 1oz Gin 1oz Campari 1oz Sweet Vermouth + about 1oz water from dilution during stirring = 4oz Total Volume of Liquid (Adding Ingredient ABV) Here’s the ABV of each ingredient, which we can write as a decimal for multiplication purposes: Gin: 40% ABV = .40 Sweet Vermouth: 18% ABV = .18 Campari: 22% ABV = .22 (Pure Alcohol Divided by Volume) We add together the pure alcohol and divide by the total volume of the drink .4+.18+.22=.8 (Pure Alcohol) .8/4 (total volume)=.2 or 20% Negroni Cocktail ABV = 20% At 20% ABV, A Negroni is what we would consider a “strong” drink. Let’s try with the Long Island Which is: 1oz vodka 1oz white rum 1oz silver tequila 1oz gin 1oz triple sec 1oz lemon juice 2oz Cola (The ABV is) 1oz vodka (40%) ABV, or .40 1oz white rum (40%) ABV, or .40 1oz silver tequila (40%) ABV, or .40 1oz gin (40%) ABV, or .40 1oz triple sec (38%) ABV, or .38 1oz lemon juice (0%) ABV 2oz Cola (0%) ABV 1oz Ice Water from dilution The total volume of the drink is 9oz. 1.98/9 =.22 or 22% ABV This Long Island cocktail Recipe Abv = 22% abv At 22% ABV, The Long Island Cocktail is considered a “ strong booze” #alcohol #liquor #cocktail #abv #education #bartender #mixologist #bar #barmanager #linkedin

What is best practice for post-match beers?🍻 This review published in 2021 summarised the data on beer and exercise, touching on: 💧Hydration 🔋Recovery ⚡️Performance Here are the primary findings: Hydration 👉 Lower alcohol beers may be best for rehydration vs higher alcohol beers (>4%) 👉 Adding sodium (or a salty snack) may aid fluid retention 👉 Studies may not be reflective of real-world drinking practices Recovery 👉 0% alcohol beers contain polyphenols which may help to prevent respiratory tract infections 👉 >4% alcohol beers can impair fluid balance and hydration 👉 Alcoholic beers should not be the sole rehydration source Performance 👉 When > 1L of beer is consumed, balance and reaction time are impaired 👉 Beer consumption may also contribute to muscle activation 👉 Training adaptations (endurance or strength) are minimally affected by daily beer consumption (up to 660ml, 5.4%, 10-weeks) Taking into account the above, best practice for post-match beers is likely: Drinking less than 700ml, while focusing on congestion of water, sports drinks or other hydrating beverages (e.g. milk) ✅ A post-match beer is absolutely grand, just don’t take it to the extreme!🍺 Reference: https://lnkd.in/euP-WWxX

In 2023 Non Alcoholic beer was 5% of total beer production in the EU and poised for growth as the total alcoholic beer production continues to decline and non-alcoholic beer production continues to increase. I think that Non-Alcoholic/Alcohol-Free beer can be 10-12% of the total EU beer production in 3-5 years based on the more the overall consumer trend of moderating their alcohol intake and changing consumption patterns of Gen Z. https://lnkd.in/ed_9jEyb

**** Gin Post Alert **** I often tell people I make Gins with Flavour rather than Flavoured Gin... well not on here but if you have the pleasure of meeting me at a market... I blather on about it a lot... Why do I bang on about it? It's an open secret that some distilleries use flavour syrups and artificial flavours in their Gins and spirits in general. I'm not going to knock that... it comes with some significant commercial and quality control advantages. If it works for them, and don't get me wrong, there are some fabulous spirits in this category I do something different. Every single one of my Gins and Vodka's is made with real, natural ingredients. It's not without its challenges, to maintain consistency and get the right flavour profile into the spirits is not easy. But in my opinion, well worth it. Why do I do it? Because that's what I like to drink. I like the flavours that come from real fruits and botanicals. My promise to all of my customers is that under the Hawkins Distillery Brand, I will only make Spirits with Real, Natural ingredients. We have recently started adding syrups to some seasonal products, which I make in-house from real fruits. Here's one of them... my very short run of Strawberry and black pepper. I was hoping for this to be earlier in the summer but it's taken me a minute to get it absolutely right. You can find it here https://lnkd.in/e6D3D8RR made with 100% real Strawbs

The OG non-alc aperitif that has maintained popularity since the 60s 🍹🍊 Have you heard of Crodino? Campari Group have got things right with their strategy for the alcohol-free drink. Here’s how other brands can learn from them: - The NA category is about choice, which doesn’t always mean replicating alcohol options out there. Give consumers a reason to choose your NA offering instead of it just tasting like something else - that is how you become a differentiator. - NA is just as much about the experience as alcohol is - consumers are not just looking for another alternative but a product with personality that provides a unique sensory and brand experience. - Don’t skimp on quality - this is key to longevity and success that surpasses trends. If you haven’t heard of Crodino, we guarantee you’ll notice it now. Due to growth in popularity it is now sold across Europe and in bars and restaurants in the UK in two flavours, Bitter Note and Ruby Tone. What do you think of Campari’s approach to Crodino?
