OpenAI just hired their first CMO. And not just anyone - they nabbed Kate Rouch from Coinbase, who previously spent 11 years at Meta leading brand marketing for Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook. Interesting timing, isn't it? A company that reached 250 million weekly active users WITHOUT prioritising strategic marketing now decides they need a CMO. Because this isn't just about OpenAI anymore. It's about how the whole AI industry is evolving. When you're facing competition from Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta in a market predicted to hit $1 trillion.. suddenly "build it and they will come" isn't enough. Even the best product needs strategic storytelling. What do you think this means for OpenAI's future? Will we see them at Super Bowl 2025? 👀 P.s. They say no, but hey, plans change!

I ❤️ Media. I ❤️ Tech. I ❤️ Business Management. Since my first years as a communication student, I haven't understood (and still don't understand today) why there is such a huge gap between the world of communication and that of business management. As I'm no longer a boy (even though I laughed at the old jokes from when I was about 13), the internet also helps combine and mix these and other specialties forever. Recently, I provoked my friends (all lovers of the same universes as me) by saying that the use and presence of AI is a reality of no return. This spark causes and will cause unimaginable transformations. There was gnashing of teeth, but nothing took away my certainty. After this teenage diary text, Let's talk about the shifts that are happening in the media industry! According to Dave Lozo's article "Some Media Companies See OpenAI as the Future" from Morning Brew, several media companies are partnering with OpenAI. Here's a quick breakdown of the key points: - Partnerships Galore: Vox Media, The Atlantic, News Corp, the Financial Times, the Associated Press, Axel Springer, and Reddit have all inked licensing deals with OpenAI. - Training Data: News articles provide valuable training data for OpenAI's AI systems. OpenAI has been accused of using this data without permission. - Legal Actions: The New York Times has taken a different route by suing OpenAI and Microsoft for copyright infringement, seeking billions in damages. - Big Tech Skepticism: Media companies are wary of partnerships with tech giants, recalling past experiences like Facebook Live, which left them unsupported after initial investments. What do you think about media companies partnering with AI firms? Is this the future of journalism, or should we be cautious about such alliances? Let's discuss it! #AI #media #future #business

OpenAI is exploring adding advertising to ChatGPT and seems to be looking closely at how other big tech companies became profitable: 👉 OpenAI has hired former Google + Instagram advertising top talent. 👉 OpenAI has acquired https://chatgpt.com/ for an undisclosed amount. 👉 With a burn rate of $5 billion a year, OpenAI could use some extra 💰. I’m sure the talented advertising team at OpenAI can come up with a much better advertising model than my scrappy DALL-E design 👇 But it’s interesting to see OpenAI exploring a more traditional revenue model like advertising. This might be a sign that the AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) they are aiming for is a further off than they initially thought...

𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗔𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗚𝗣𝗧 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴. Is OpenAI discussing plans for an ad model? Maybe. But don't expect advertising to appear in ChatGPT anytime soon. According to OpenAI’s Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar: “Our current business is experiencing rapid growth and we see significant opportunities within our existing business model. While we’re open to exploring other revenue streams in the future, we have no active plans to pursue advertising.” Friar didn’t entirely dismiss advertising as a potential revenue stream. OpenAI will be “thoughtful about when and where” to implement advertising, according to Financial Times. The report noted that OpenAI has hired former “advertising talent” from Google, Meta, and elsewhere. “I’m not saying OpenAI would never consider ads, but I don’t like them in general, and I think that ads-plus-AI is sort of uniquely unsettling to me.” Why we care. OpenAI and its new search product are a blip compared to Google Search. However, that blip is growing. If that momentum continues and its userbase grows, ChatGPT could pose a potential threat to Google in time. However, no “Google killer” search engine has been able to get people to break their Google Search habit yet. Have you seen Sora yet? It's an OpenAI tool that instantly creates videos from text prompts. The results are impressive. I'm looking forward to giving the technology a try, but for all its benefits I feel that a generation of people are not going to trust what they see anymore. I keep hearing that younger generations prefer authenticity and peer recommendations over traditional marketing tactics, which they easily spot. I feel this could widen that gap further, unless there reaches a point where AI content really does become indistinguishable from reality - AI influencers and the like. It sounds like science fiction, but these things are already out there and can only improve. What do you think? In time, will it be glossy AI content or the brands that rely on authenticity that stand out? I'm interested to see how it plays out! https://lnkd.in/edhb8mi7
