🚀 Major Boost for Photonic Chip Technology in Twente! 🚀 Last Friday, the Provincie Overijssel announced that New Origin will receive support for the further development of our production facility. Yesterday, the Ministerie van Economische Zaken revealed that €15 million from Europe will be available for #twente to establish a pilot plant for photonic chips. The University of Twente will use this investment to modernize equipment at the MESA+ Nanolab, enabling a faster transition from research and development to production at New Origin. As Guus Rijnders mentioned in De Twentsche Courant Tubantia, “If the prototypes we create at the UT perform well, the aim is for New Origin to produce them in mass. It all connects together.” 🤝 As Twan Korthorst in Het Financieele Dagblad said: "These developments are great news for New Origin and the ChipTech Twente cluster, bringing our ambition to start rolling out photonic chips by late 2026 a big step closer. The European funding will lower barriers to adopting this new technology, encouraging increased activity and demand for production capacity. Here in Twente, we’ve been working on photonics for over 30 years, with various companies like LioniX International, Brilliance RGB, ALUVIA, Epiphany and QuiX Quantum actively paving the way to bring photonic chips to market.” #Photonics #ChipTechTwente #NewOrigin #Innovation #TechForEurope #FutureOfChips #Twente

This is an interesting new project to develop a #secondarysource and one should mention the meaning of the acronym MEGA-EUV: "Milliwatt-level efficient gas harmonic EUV source". Furthermore, it is worth to mention that AMPHOS GmbH is part of TRUMPF which produces the EUV source for ASML already. Which is making several 100 W of incoherent light. The new source will make some Milliwatt of coherent EUV radiation.
Finally it starts! We announce together with our partners the start of the future shaping "MEGA-EUV" project. AMPHOS GmbH is cooperating with the Universität Hamburg, Class 5 Photonics , Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY and partners from the semiconductor industry as part of the "MEGA-EUV" project. The aim of the project is to develop a high-performance, extreme ultraviolet (EUV) beam source for the inspection of microchips. The project is being funded by Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung as part of the program “Neuartige photonische Werkzeuge für Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft” (new photonic tools for economy and society). The goal of this funding initiative is to support the transfer of innovative research results in the key technology #photonics and thus making important contributions to innovative strength and competitiveness as well as to overcoming social challenges in the areas of health, digitalization, and sustainability. 🔬 What is LOLIPOP Project? LOLIPOP is a #photonic integration project funded by the European Commission designed to bridge the gap in underserved spectral bands. By leveraging the booming silicon nitride and the resurgence of lithium niobate in its lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) form, LOLIPOP aims to develop a platform that combines the best of both worlds. 💡 Why Silicon Nitride and Lithium Niobate? Both materials are transparent in the visible and near-infrared (NIR) spectrum, making them perfect for a wide range of applications. Silicon nitride offers excellent optical properties and seamless integration with existing semiconductor technologies. Meanwhile, lithium niobate brings superior electro-optic and nonlinear optical characteristics to the table. 🚀 Our Vision LOLIPOP is set to create a disruptive platform with the highest integration, modulation, and second-order nonlinear performance from 400 nm to 1600 nm. By combining LNOI and TriPleX technology, we aim to deliver unparalleled solutions for telecommunications, medical imaging, environmental monitoring, and beyond. 👉 Join us on this journey to push the boundaries of photonics and open new horizons for technological innovation!
