I thought it was illegal Parcel carriers enable you to use your own transportation solutions to directly inject packages into sortation centers. By targeting sort centers closer to high-density areas where your most important customers are, you can decrease time in transit by sometimes multiple days! 🤯 I was still skeptical. We had just started our micro fulfillment business and knew very little about how transportation at scale worked. We started speaking with shippers and last-mile carriers. Not only did we find that time in transits could frequently be reduced by implementing a zone skip strategy - but it was cheaper in many instances too. It was too good to believe! ...And it reduced damages ...And it reduced WISMO calls to customer service centers ...And it helped increase customer retention ...And it secured customer LTV Fast forward 7 years, we built WARP to help facilitate these zone skips nationwide. It turns out that shippers like working with companies that came from building a nationwide parcel network for their zone skips and last-mile carrier injections - who knew? We've launched a new partnership with global parcel locker operator Quadient, providing customers with more choice to make sending and receiving parcels as convenient as possible. The partnership means our customers will have access to parcel lockers for the first time. 📦 The first lockers will launch in Coventry in April, with further locations opening in the following months. Around 1,500 are expected by the end of the year, with further plans for 3,000 across the UK. The lockers will initially allow customers to drop off returns and pre-paid parcels before being expanded so that customers can have items delivered to the lockers for pick up. The launch is an important part of our strategy to continue to make sending and receiving parcels as convenient as possible by adding more choice. The partnership with Quadient adds to the recent announcement that Royal Mail customers will be able to use up to 5,000 Collect+ stores to drop off and collect parcels. Together, this will increase the number of locations where customers can drop off parcels to more than 21,000, including 3,000 lockers, 11,500 Post Office branches, 5,000 Collect+ stores, 1,200 Royal Mail Customer Service Points and 1,200 parcel postboxes. Finally it's happening, and I bet it'll be a success : Royal Mail setting up a Locker 🛅 Network. Through Parcel Pending by Quadient' open locker network in the UK 🇬🇧 UK is the biggest European Market for Ecommerce & Logistic Market : Logistic in 2022 was valued US$ 478.3 Billion while Ecommerce was valued US$131.5 Billion in 2023. There's no better choice then to move to OOH for a Market like UK, where in 2022 (Pitney Bowes Shipping Index) 5.1Billion 📦 have been shipped. This multi year contract will let Royal Mail customers to 📍 pickup and dropoff parcels 📦 from May 24 (200 sites to start), aiming to reach 3,000 Quadient Lockers in the next years. International Distribution Services PLC (mother Company of Royal Mail & GLS) shared yesterday Q1 results. Q1 is "3 months to the end of June 2024", as fiscal year starts on April 1st. All figures are positive, except for Letters 📮 where there's no hope of getting back on pre-digital volumes. That's why Royal Mail is asking again to review the USO (Universal Service Obbligation) Agreement with Ofcom. As Mr Seidenberg said in Jan about Royal Mail machine "it is simply not sustainable to maintain a delivery network built for 20bn letters when we are now only delivering 7bn". There's a gap of 13bn. Anyway, what went better? 💷 Revenue : Group was +8.2%, Royal Mail +10.6% with Parcel business recording +10.1%, GLS achieved +4.8% 📦 Parcels Volume : Royal Mail did +11% with super strong performance on International (+47%), GLS achieved +5% What about OOH improvements? 📍 Royal Mail has now +3.300 Collect+ stores, that will reach 5.000 in the coming weeks. 🛅 400 lockers now operational, 1.500 by the end of 2024 Don't forget the agreement with Quadient : " Lockers ... 1,500 are expected by the end of the year, with further plans for 3,000 across the UK" and "Parcel Shops ... Believe it or not … peak is coming fast. Haven’t added carriers yet? I get it. You’ve had other things to worry about. And adding carriers was low on your priority list. Those “other things” haven’t gone away. But maybe you should bump parcel up the list. It’s a shipper’s market. [but it won’t last forever] And your OpEx budget is squeezed. There’s no better time to add carriers. And be intentional with your parcel program. But you better get started soon. A La Cart Parcel Pricing: Get Used to It! While it’s hard to put a smile on any kind of parcel rate increase…this type of increase is somewhat understandable as the cost is high to make parcel pickups and deliveries in the largest urban/metro areas. However, this opens the door for the carriers to selectively raise rates at micro levels for whatever reason, to include implementing ad-hoc surcharges at the delivery address level. This can also open the door to a shipper or even the carrier directing delivery to an access point for customer pickup if the carriers waive “special” ad-hoc surcharges at these types of locations like Walgreens or CVS. Finally, this type of carrier pricing behavior can also be used to drive residential ecommerce delivery to a retail access point for customer pickup, which may not be subject to ever-increasing residential delivery surcharges. #ups #fedex #amazon #ecommerce #accesspoints #hubbox Ian Kerr Perry Lavergne Adriana Teta Sam Jarvis

We were interested to read the findings of the annual US Parcel Shipping Index, from Pitney Bowes. Revenue overall was slightly down for the first time in seven years, but parcel volume was up. Two things in the report struck us. First, carriers other than the ‘big four’ saw their combined volumes grow by 28.5 per cent. Second, there was a shift in consumer spending towards “affordable goods, from global marketplaces”, resulting in “an influx of smaller, less-expensive, lightweight packages which drive up volumes at a lower rate of revenue-per-piece.” As a long-standing eCommerce cross-border carrier, one of our areas of expertise is shipping to the US – our ability to enable our clients to fulfil their delivery promises is why eCommerce retailers choose us. As a result, we are partnering with increasing numbers of retailers who are breaking into, or expanding, in this market. So, our own experience and the findings of the report both indicate a rosy future for smaller carriers like OCS, who are shipping high volume affordable products to the US.
