How Much is Your Time Worth? 🤔 🚗 Once, my car battery completely died, leaving me stranded and needing an emergency lock opener. Twenty minutes after my call, a technician arrived, asked a couple of questions, and opened my car in just three minutes. The service cost me €70. At first, I thought, "€70 for three minutes of work? That's outrageous!" But then, I reconsidered. Was it really too much? Or was it a fair price? 🙇♂️ I realized it was absolutely worth it. I wasn't paying for just three minutes of his time; I was paying for the years of experience and training that enabled him to solve my problem quickly and efficiently. Those €70 represented the culmination of his expertise and skill, which were honed over a long period. 🤔 This got me thinking about the current hiring practices in many companies. Do they truly understand the value of an experienced developer? Often, they seek full-time developers but offer salaries that don’t reflect the high level of expertise required. This approach is short-sighted and fails to recognize that seasoned developers, thanks to their experience, can complete tasks twice as fast as their less experienced counterparts. ½ Instead of insisting on full-time hires within a limited budget, why not consider part-time contracts? I've seen numerous instances where experienced developers have outperformed mid-level or senior-level colleagues, delivering high-quality results in a fraction of the time. ⚖️ Companies need to rethink their hiring strategies. If your budget doesn’t meet the expectations of the developer you want, consider flexible arrangements. Recognize that you’re not just paying for their time; you’re investing in their hard-earned skills and knowledge. A part-time contract with a highly skilled developer could bring more value than a full-time role filled by someone less experienced. 🤌 It's time to understand the real worth of time and expertise. What do you think? How can companies better recognize and compensate the experience and efficiency of highly skilled developers while managing their budgets? Or am I completely off base here? 🤔 Let's discuss! 👋🏻

We're expanding and invite you to apply for a job, company, and workload that doesn't suck! Why work for us? You want to be introduced to a wide variety of information systems across a variety of environments, with ample opportunity to expand laterally and vertically into new skill sets, all in a practical, safe, and cooperative work environment. We believe you should be paid twice in your profession: In money and new experiences. You're not interested in being a cog in some large corporate machine. You're not the "Windows Deployment" or "User and Password" technician, sitting in front of a desk for 8 hours as a one-trick pony, bored to tears. You're a valued, trusted, and important part of our operations, and should aspire to more. You're here to work with the machines, not BE them. You want to work in a largely low stress work environment. We achieve this by saying "No". A lot. Clients with little basic IT know-how, minimal budget for reliable IT solutions, and even less patience? We don't take them. We deploy best in class software and hardware solutions, and only take clients on that appreciate the time and energy put into keeping things running smooth. This keeps meltdown's non-existent, and major IT incidents manageable. You don't want to dread going into the office? Then stay home! We utilize a flexible hybrid solution to allow employees to reap the benefits of working from home. You want supervisors that are worth it. They say people don't quit jobs, they quit managers, and we agree. That's why we quit ours and started UNITE! Supervisors are here to step in, lend a hand, and most importantly lead by example. You won't be asked to do anything the owners of the company wouldn't do themselves. We have an open door policy and our employees use it. It's good when you get feedback that life has improved for someone who worked with you. Good to feel I had a hand in his turnaround (I don't think I can take all the credit - he worked hard on himself to get this). This is a response to an email I sent out 3 months after someone left my program. This guy was working with me for a year, worked hard on charging appropriately and getting himself out of the guts of things to work ON the business instead of on the tools, hired admin support, started understanding his numbers (instead of being on the tools) and worked on saying "NO" when no was required. The obvious question for you is, "What are you doing to make your business work for you?". Because it can be done, just look at this guy. Book A Call --> smallfish.com.au/chat
