There's one week to go until the final deadline of this year's PRWeek UK 30 Under 30 Awards! So if you haven't submitted an entry yet - for you or one of your teammates, now's your chance. My tip for entrants: think about how you (or your teammate if you're nominating a colleague) have gone above and beyond in your career, delivering on SMART goals and have made a real positive impact in our industry. So be 'Specific', 'Measurable', show how the impact you've made was 'Achieved', tell us why it's 'Relevant' and how it was 'Time-Bound' (when it happened). And above all, let your personal passion come through - show us what makes you, you! Looking forward to reading the entries soon... From an average performer to a scholar. “Collins, you have a decision to make, you either settle down and achieve your goals according to your potential or leave school and stay at home.” A principal's words that impacted Collin’s life. Collince is a broadcast journalist and a part time lecturer. He has discovered skills he never knew he had and has remained an inspiration to both his students and his colleagues. This is something he never foresaw while in high school as he always considered himself an average performer. #Diversity&performance #Thepowerchoice #Impacttoimpact

Will I see you in a conference hallway this month? I hope so! I am thrilled to be gearing up for three very special conferences this month, and I can't wait to reconnect with many folks I haven't seen in so long. Here’s where I’ll be and what I’ll be speaking about: ▪Newmark J+ Unconference / NYC / Sept 12-13: Behind the scenes on my capstone research project on redefining media leadership ▪Online News Association / Atlanta / Sept. 18-20: How to set a strong newsroom product strategy ▪New England Newspaper & Press Association + NEW YORK PRESS ASSOCIATION INC Fall Newspaper Conference / Providence / Sept 21: Five future-proof skills for media leaders Questions I’m pondering and excited to chat about: ❓How do we strengthen career pathways for product and audience leaders and practitioners? ❓How can we update journalism education to equip students to tackle the industry’s current challenges? ❓How do we make media less insular? What lessons can we learn from other industries? If we’ll overlap, I’d love to connect. ✨

🗳 It's election day ☑ and July 4th 🇺🇸 - Get out and vote UK residents or have a relaxing day off from politics if you're in the US. Either way, here's some reading distraction, a round up of the Brands&Culture content in Cannes where we asked the question, what the F*CK is culture? And addressed the concept of how you need to think fast and slow to approach culturally valuable work. It’s clear that both brands and agencies are trying to improve the way they work with culture. Everyone’s agreed on the potential, but the brand and ad worlds are still working out ways to deliver valuable, culture-creating work, where brands build meaningful connections with audiences and/or immerse themselves into cultural scenes with zero friction and maximum impact. Read the full round up on our website, link below, with more to come next week with the Culture@Cannes full deep dive report. #CMOs #Cannes #Brandsnculture #culture

Last night I watched the "Intern" movie and this morning I read the article attached. The correlation was immediately evident. I had an employee that became my defacto mentor during my first business and I came to learn very quickly, although he was 75 Years-Old, his skill set was invaluable. Moreso, I had just won the largest Temp supply Contract in the UK at the time for a Global Billion $ Turnover business. Little did I know that would indirectly lead to me taking over the site intrinsically and eventually the successful sale of my first incorporated business. My Mentor who died last year sadly, had a wealth of experience. Not only was he a Former UK Chief Fire Fighter, but he also established Saudi Arabia's Fire Service and went onto run Distribution Centres for Royal Mail. Employing older people leads to better outcomes. When you are an appointed CEO succession planning can be much simpler. However, when you have a founder that stays in a business for the duration it can certainly be much harder. I experienced it and more importantly learned from it, having been the product of 3 successful Start-ups and Exits myself. I'm personally not a fan of founders being at the forefront of any business for longer than is evidently required as they need to step to the side and allow an appointment to takeover for both personal and commercial goals. It can also allow them to see the wood for the trees. Objectivity is such a graceful word with an abundance of meanings. #business #CEO #appointments

Misinformation and disinformation have become a major challenge. False news is often passed on unwittingly, rather than maliciously. But how can we stem the tide of fake news and navigate a new era of mistrust? Read our story in FM RedZone (with thanks to Bronwen Kausch) on how the communications industry could help create quality stories that would pass the muster of even the most exacting sub-editors.
