Valuable insights on transfer credit evaluation below. I hope these transfer pathways are embraced. Great write up, Nicole Engelbert
This is the one.... Transfer credit evaluation - a term that puts fear into the hearts of students and dread into those of registrars (and advisors, admissions directors, department chairs, and basically anyone else working in higher education.) It's a chronic pain point in our industry and one with which student systems haven't been particularly helpful. It's what keeps me and more than few Oracle product managers up at night thinking, "...if we could just solve this one, this one would change the student experience, this one would improve college completion, this one would accelerate social mobility." The uptake of AI technologies by student systems and institutions has great promise, particularly as trust builds in the machine-as-a-person in institutional processes and consequently shifts mental models of how transfer credit evaluation should or must enfold. But we need to move faster and in more bold, disruptive ways. The recent report from the Hechinger Report that we are now averaging one announcement per week of a school closure or merger and the dismal outcomes of student enrolled at them makes the problem even more acute. The statistic that one average students lose 43% of their credits when transferring made me feel sick. If you are interested in being part of a conversation on transfer credit, please let me know as this is the one we need to solve for our students, this is the one where we can make a real impact. https://lnkd.in/erV_ZASu
