📣 BREAKING: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit today issued its ruling in Braidwood v. Becerra, a challenge to the Affordable Care Act’s coverage mandate. In response, Lambda Legal HIV Project Director Jose Abrigo issued the following statement: “Lambda Legal is relieved after the recent narrow decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in the case of Braidwood v. Becerra that ruled most of the nation’s insurance providers must continue to cover PrEP medication and other preventative services. Because the ruling is limited to the plaintiffs in the Braidwood case, the broader protections and healthcare policies at the national level providing access to preventative care remain intact. However, the narrow scope of this ruling does not diminish our concerns about the threat posed to access by this case and the potential for future challenges that could threaten the healthcare rights and protections for millions of Americans. In order to eradicate the HIV epidemic, it is essential that we continue to promote and provide access to PrEP, along with other preventative measures, to create a future where preventable diseases are minimized and everyone has the opportunity to maintain optimal health.” We’ll continue to closely monitor any further developments related to this case and similar legal challenges. 🎉 The 340B Drug Pricing Program turns 31 today! On the eve of the election, we celebrate a program with enduring bipartisan support. For three decades, 340B has been the backbone of America's public health safety net, helping providers stretch scarce federal resources to serve more patients. 💡 Three things you might not know about the program: 1️⃣ 1 in 10 Americans rely on community health centers for their care 2️⃣ Ryan White clinics leverage 340B savings to provide HIV treatment to 575,000 people annually, achieving a 89% viral suppression rate (vs. 65% national avg.) 3️⃣ New research published in JAMA shows that when FQHCs expand their 340B programs, they deliver more care to uninsured patients and boost preventive services Three decades in, 340B continues to demonstrate what's possible when we prioritize access to care for all Americans. #Healthcare #PublicHealth #HealthEquity #340B #CommunityHealth

I have the privilege of working with The Hepatitis C Trust where we have been listening closely to the incredible team of staff and volunteers, whose lived experience and frontline work provide unique insights into the challenges faced by the populations they serve. NHS England Hepatitis C Elimination Programme has been a huge success. In 2023/4, they engaged more than 140,000 people, tested more than 50,000 and supported more than 3,000 people to access hepatitis C treatment. However, with increasing health inequalities and stalling life expectancy the need to broaden the scope is clear: Mental health support, harm reduction, and addressing conditions like HIV and hepatitis B are top priorities. Social issues such as housing, stigma, and access to healthcare remain significant barriers for many. A peer-led model is more vital than ever, building trust with underserved populations while providing advocacy for systemic change. Staff and volunteers are already going above and beyond, addressing needs beyond hepatitis C - but they need recognition and support, including training in broader health areas. The aim remains to amplify the voices of the often voiceless, ensuring that no one is left behind. 📣 Call to Action: Now is the time for government bodies and the NHS to join us in this journey to ensure a "fairer Britain, where everyone lives well for longer". Together, we can champion sustainable funding and policies that drive meaningful change for the most marginalised and vulnerable. 💡 What are your thoughts on the role of peer-led models in tackling health inequalities? #InclusiveHealth #HealthEquity #PeerLed #PublicHealth #HCT Leila Reid Amitava Banerjee Rachel Halford Prof. Bola Owolabi, MRCGP MFPH(Hon), FRSPH

Comment: Dr Aaron Motsoaledi is announced as minister of health(MOH) on the 30th of June in the YEAR 2024! This after serving as MOH for a full decade, from 2009-2019. The Motsoaledi years was two fold, good & bad.. the good was that a lot less people died because of HIV and the end of AIDS denialism saved lives, but to be honest that race and baton was started & handed over by former minister Barbara Hogan. The bad? Dr Motsoaledi department was marred by crisis after crisis in the public healthcare system. Yes, generalising about PHS is not always fair. There is significant variation between provinces, between districts and between individual facilities. There are undoubtedly many qualified and committed people out there putting in the hours for the communities they serve. But there are also persistent reports of under-staffing, long waiting times, patients sleeping on the floor and worse, R450 million spent on a broken NIS system! So in 2024 we need to begin to build a Universal Healthcare System? and be led by a man who has done nothing in 10 years that even had a whiff of innovation when it came to regulating private healthcare to improve public health🫠🇿🇦

At the end of June, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit upheld a lower court ruling that a portion of the ACA’s preventive care mandate is unconstitutional. However, the court said the ruling should apply only to the plaintiffs who brought the case. The plaintiffs objected on religious grounds to providing coverage of services such as pre-exposure prophylaxis medications for HIV. Calling the decision a “mixed bag,” the court indicated that a universal injunction impacting the preventive care mandate was not warranted. #NewDawnInBenefits #compliance #courts #litigation #ACA #hr #humanresources #grouphealthinsurance #healthinsurance #healthcare

For over two decades, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has been a global leader in saving lives and strengthening health systems. Through bipartisan leadership, PEPFAR has: ✅ Provided lifesaving treatment to over 20 million people ✅ Prevented millions of babies from being born with HIV ✅ Built resilience in over 50 countries to combat health crises The NAE has long supported the work of PEPFAR, and we believe that both public and private investment in life-saving assistance is required. With its reauthorization deadline approaching in March, now is a good time to urge Congress to support PEPFAR. We have a letter ready to go: https://lght.ly/j50nn3a #PEPFAR #GlobalHealth
