Paying the bill at the restaurant in an international group can be quite awkward😮💨 Especially if you are having dinner in a different country! Most of us in Europe or in North America are used to paying separately for what we have ordered when we eat out. But in some countries, traditions are completely different. Here in Cyprus we have a lot of "plates" dishes (love them!), so we often divide the bill among the number of guests.
Being an Eastern European, I'm used to "Splitwising". But that's definitely a no-go in the UAE, Armenia or Georgia, for example. I believe it's important to know for everyone interested in developing business relations abroad. Thank you for this info, Kristina Roppelt ! Helpful, as always 💙
That is really interesting. Thanks for sharing those cultural differences, Kristina Roppelt

8moIn some cultures, there is also some involvement of gender roles. For instance, in Pakistan, usually men pay for the meal. If you are with a male family member, it's a given. With friends or dates, you can offer to split but most chivalrous men would politely refuse. In corporate culture, host pays but if host is a woman, male guests might still pay or insist on paying.
