[E-Commerce] Temu has quietly launched in Thailand, its third market in Southeast Asia. This debut comes nearly a year after entering Malaysia and the Philippines. Temu's Thailand site, like other market debuts, offers grand opening discounts of up to 90%, coupled with a bundle of discount coupons worth 70 baht. Temu's quick global expansion last year helped US-listed PDD become China's most valuable e-commerce company, surpassing long-standing leaders Alibaba and JD.com. According to the “E-commerce in Southeast Asia 2024 report” by Momentum Works, Thailand is the second-largest e-commerce market in Southeast Asia after Indonesia. It has the second-fastest growth rate (after Vietnam), with a year-on-year growth of 34.1%. In 2023, Thailand’s e-commerce platform market was dominated by Shopee (49% market share), Lazada (30%), and TikTok Shop (21%). We don’t yet know how aggressive Temu will be in Southeast Asia. Their strategy is very ROI-driven and can change quickly. However, incumbent players, including platforms, brands, and enablers, need to prepare for strong competition. #Ecommerce #SoutheastAsia #Thailand #Temu https://lnkd.in/gH5DE3z9 https://lnkd.in/gtx5Ar33

Here is the market share of the e-commerce sector in the first quarter of 2024 in Vietnam according to the result of the research of YouNet ECI. It comes as no surprise that Shopee leads the market with over 67% market share. After nearly 8 years in the Vietnamese market, this e-commerce platform from Singapore has introduced numerous shopping programs with blockbuster deals to attract users and is gradually reaping the rewards of its successful harvest, as evidenced by its profitability in this hundred-million-strong market in the past year, 2023. ⚠ The surprising element here perhaps stems from the emergence of a new player in the market, TikTok Shop, which, despite being in the market for less than 3 years, has surpassed even earlier entrants such as Lazada and TIKI to claim the second position in the market. This can be attributed to TikTok Shop's very innovative approach compared to other sales channels, leveraging its strength as a social entertainment platform. It could be said that TikTok Shop has opened up a new playground called "#shoppertainment" and is leading the way in this arena. ⚠ The next noteworthy point comes from the assessment of YouNet ECI, stating that the Vietnamese e-commerce industry could reach its peak GMV of 16.8 billion USD, Within this concept, "#shoppertainment" (the combination of shopping and entertainment) is the key element, accounting for nearly half of the total merchandise value of the entire industry, amounting to 8.1 billion USD. 👉 This will drive the growth of cross-border payment industry for e-commerce businesses headquartered abroad entering Vietnam.
