Don't worry, this doesn't include an audio clip of me breaking into showtunes from Rent! New York City is constantly coming up on RFP requests from clients because of the companies based there, the three airport access into the city and the numerous amount of activities and hotels in the city, but that doesn't necessarily make it any easier to find a home for an event.
Manhattan alone has 75,827 hotel rooms (thank you New York City Tourism + Conventions website), another 3,050 if you add in Brooklyn, ranging from high end full service hotels to small extended stay hotels and EVERYTHING in between.
So what did I do to find a new client two small room blocks 3 weeks apart for approx 30 rooms per night for 3 nights where they could likely fit in most of the hotels in NYC? My first step for NYC is always to try to narrow in to a specific area if possible. Luckily for this group, we were working off of a mile radius from their HQ in the Flatiron district, which brought us down to 15 hotels and we went from there to determine rates and
You may remember a few months ago I posted about a screenshot I received from a client saying "WOW, this is the best pricing I've seen BY A LOT - thank you!"
That was this client.
Now, there are a number of things that helped played a role there - timing of the request (within 90 days of actualization), low season in NYC (end of Jan/Feb), hotel needs dates and being a rooms only group. And then the icing on the cake, a hotel promo for new business that added some additional perks to the group, which would help lead to the recent post-event message from the client -
"I meant to send you a note - it was fantastic! And we were able to do nicer team events than initially anticipated because of how great a deal we got on the hotel :) Can't thank you enough!"

Can we really beat The Hilton? How is that even possible... 🤔
It's all about context: For a few nights here and there, it's pretty difficult to beat a brand the size of The Hilton. They have it all: Restaurants, bars, hand and foot customer service, ambience, location, facilities and much, much more.
But what if your executives are working on a 3 month project away from home? The prospect of living in the likes of The Hilton are initially quite attractive, however it will get very expensive very fast. And the complete lack of privacy and personal space can be soul-destroying.
We know. Because in my previous business, we housed dozens of executives from the BBC, Jaguar Landrover, Amazon and even TikTok, who said they much preferred booking our luxury listings as opposed to just getting a nice hotel.
The money went further, the dwellings were often in better locations themselves, and the occupants could live more of a 'normal' life - cooking what they would normally eat, hosting small dinner parties, and enjoying their own private space.
Some even bring their families along for the adventure!
