Derby College: Empowering Culinary Talent Through Apprenticeships
In the ever-evolving culinary industry, where innovation and expertise are essential, apprenticeships play a crucial role in shaping the future. Tom, a former Derby College apprentice and now head chef, is a strong advocate for this pathway, crediting apprenticeships as the foundation for developing and retaining young talent.
Currently leading a team that includes DCG apprentices Tilly and Chloe at Fairways, Tom emphasises the value of nurturing a team through the College’s programs. He states, “Given the challenges our industry faces, it’s vital that employers invest in retaining young, enthusiastic chefs who are eager to learn and grow.”
With apprentices progressing through Levels 2 and 3, this approach provides continuity for both employers and staff, fostering long-term careers and ensuring businesses retain skilled workers.
