Pick 7-8 folks you look up to—mentors, public figures, anyone whose work or life story inspires you. 🌟 Got a tough decision to make? Just ask, What would my Personal Board do? It's like having access to the best brains for business moves, strategy planning, or making sure you're on the ethical straight and narrow. 🧠 This board should be a mirror of your values—people who know what 'doing the right thing' means. I'm gathering my squad. 👥 Are you? Do you have a Board already? Who is on it?

Bring it on, Evel Knievel When I was eight, I owned a black Raleigh BMX Burner and dreamed of being Evel Knievel. My older brother, aka my “stunt planner,” had one job: to make sure my stunts went off without a hitch. We lived next to a steep hill that led to a construction dumping ground scattered with bricks and mortar—perfect for the daredevil event we had in mind. I was ready for the stunt of my life (back then, helmets weren’t part of the plan). Off I went, leaning in hard, swaying from side to side, momentum burning in my nostrils. Ahead, I saw what looked like a 40-degree angled ramp—and it was. That was as far as my BMX went. My bike stopped. I didn’t. Moments later, my “stunt coordinator” appeared, breathless, looking down at me with fear in his eyes, praying I was still alive. I was. He helped me pick up the bike, and we headed home for supper. That’s just how things went back then. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. I’ve relived this moment many times in my life. During leadership meetings, I’ve charged forward without pausing to consider the consequences of my words and actions, leading my team headlong without realising the potential impacts; like my childhood stunts, these moments taught me the hard way: personal growth and success come when I choose balance over excess. True growth requires us to pause, consider the impact, and focus on thoughtful, intentional action rather than impulsive leaps.

A vulnerable and exciting update for my network: A little over a year ago, when I joined The Admin Effect as their Chief Marketing Officer, I stepped out of my comfort zone and really put my imposter syndrome to the test. I could confidently tell an office how many seminars they would need to hold to meet their growth goals for the year. I could identify gaps in branding and deliverables for a company, create and execute a social media calendar, and organize a client events schedule. However, I had no idea what Firelight was. I didn't know what a replacement application entailed. I didn't fully grasp the difference between a carrier and a custodian. The only thing I knew about a Roth IRA was simply that I had one. And don't even ask me to explain the difference between qualified and non-qualified funds. The list goes on... I share this because, in a matter of months, with the guidance and support of our incredible team, I learned what Firelight was (spoiler: it's not the song by Owl City). I learned the significance of IRA types in applications, and the difference between qualified and non-qualified funds. This knowledge allowed me to develop effective case management training, forecast how many applications our team can complete in a day, and streamline money movement timeframes and strategies. Let my experience during the past year be a testament to the true power of The Admin Effect. Our service offering, and ESPECIALLY our training program, was created with the framework that I followed to get to this point, and that our team has followed as well. A special shoutout to our Leadership Team for pushing me toward this opportunity and giving me the grace and confidence to take on this new role. Ryan was even the best man at my wedding. Deep down, I think Ryan and I always knew we’d work together, as we share the same goals, beliefs, and competitive drive—neither one of us plays for a tie.   Beedie’s incredible legacy and reputation for integrity, honesty, and excellence were major inspirations. Beedie’s focus on setting industry standards, while prioritizing people before profits, further reinforced my decision.   𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝟓 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨?   We made a wholesale operational change about 5 years ago in our Beedie Living division. The creation of pillars within the team has empowered respected leaders with greater autonomy and authority while increasing accountability. This approach led to more strategic and efficient operations. The focus on hiring the best in class has been instrumental, often likened to "trading up" in hockey to build the best talent needed to reach the playoffs. 5 years ago we didn't have a single registered architect on staff; today we have 6, giving us an unparalleled competitive advantage.   𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐝 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝?   Prioritize building lasting relationships and upholding a strong reputation. Hard work and respect for others is crucial. Leave your ego behind, give credit where it’s deserved, and always be honest. Finally, remember to celebrate the wins. 

It feels good to win, doesn't it? But that win can feel hollow when you're doing all the work and just dragging your team along. As a high-performing leader, supporting your team to cross the finish line is one thing. But jumping in and doing all the work to get the W is another thing entirely. A couple of years ago, the CEO of a rapidly growing tech company brought me in to support his Head of Sales. Michael was a great sales leader, but he was always working in a state of urgency, jumping from one fire to the next, and neglecting spending time with his team or his family. After working together for a few months, we invited his boss, the CEO, into the conversation to share some wins and get feedback on his growth. The (paraphrased) feedback was: "I definitely see a difference with all the work you've been doing. As your team grows and you're able to delegate more, I encourage you to take that found time and block it out for yourself. NO MORE GRINDING; I don't want you playing heroball and dragging people to the win." Seeing a leader who encouraged his executive team to show up as human and to prioritize their own needs and balance made me incredibly happy to support that company and their leadership team. 🌟 We all benefit when we learn to let go of the grind. 🌟 We all benefit when we remember we are human first. 🌟 We all benefit when leaders lead from their values and not just for the bottom line.
