Understanding AADT: Annual Average Daily Traffic AADT stands for Annual Average Daily Traffic, a critical metric in transportation planning and traffic engineering. It represents the total volume of vehicle traffic on a highway or road over a year, divided by 365 days. Essentially, it provides an average number of vehicles per day for the first year. For example, if a road has an AADT of 10,000 vehicles per day, it means that, on average, 10,000 vehicles travel on that road each day over the course of a year. Why is AADT important? 💡 Infrastructure Planning: Helps in designing roadways and intersections to accommodate current and future traffic volumes. 💡 Safety Analysis: Identifies high-traffic areas that may need safety improvements. 💡 Funding and Budgeting: Informs allocation of resources for road maintenance and upgrades. #pavementdesign #civilengineering #quiltyengineeringhub

Congratulations to the City of Detroit, one of our #USDOT #ThrivingCommunities on two exciting grant wins for over $88.9 Million! EPA Clean Ports The Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority has been selected to receive an anticipated $21,905,782 to initiate the transition to a zero-emission future for the Port of Detroit in Michigan. The proposed project includes the acquisition and deployment of battery-electric cargo handling equipment, vessels, railcar movers, charging equipment, and solar arrays to support the electricity needs of the new equipment. The project also includes the scrappage of diesel cargo handling equipment, a vessel, and a railcar mover to reduce air pollution at the port and in the surrounding area. As part of this project, the applicant plans to develop a stakeholder engagement plan to facilitate community engagement and a guidebook for workforce development. CRISI: In Michigan, more than $67 million will be invested in Detroit RECHARGED - Realizing Environmental Changes Happening Around Railroads Generating Equitable Development, which will improve and expand the Livernois Intermodal Facility by installing approximately 17,200 feet of new track and upgrading paving as well replacing diesel gantry cranes with new hybrid and fully electric gantry cranes in Detroit and Wayne County, Michigan. The project will benefit local business owners and surrounding residents by improving service performance, enhancing multimodal connections, and reducing negative environmental impacts.  The RAIB team (The Ray Highway, Arcadis, InfraStrategies LLC, Beverly A. This past week was National Roundabouts Week in the U.S. Across the country, there are over 10,000 roundabouts, some states even have a "roundabout first" policy, prioritizing them in roadway intersection designs to help improve safety. For instance, changing a two-way intersection with stop signs to a roundabout can reduce fatal and injury crashes by 82 percent. A roundabout is just one of many road elements addressed by the Complete Streets design model used by transportation planners and engineers to consistently plan, design, operate, and maintain the entire roadway networks with all users in mind.
