Have you ever seen a patch of dry, abandoned land on your walk home and thought hmm, this could be a great spot to plant some native plants? I introduce to you, Guerrilla Gardening, the practice of growing plants in your neighborhood’s neglected spaces. Guerrilla gardens can boost biodiversity, create community spaces, produce fresh food, clean polluted air and support mental health, as well as providing beauty and color to your neighborhood. The “guerrilla” aspect comes from being truly grassroots: growing from the ground up through community-led action, rather than municipal influence or involvement. In other words, guerrilla gardening is where flower power meets people power. Over the last couple of months, I've had the joy of working with Ellen Miles + Justin Cadelago of Imagine5 to bring you a step-by-step Guide to Guerrilla Gardening, filled with multi-media resources, exercises, and more, to help you tackle that dry, neglected patch of land near you. Check it out and have a Guerrilla Gardening filled summer 🌱

That is incredible; thanks for sharing, Kiana :) We have a community garden program here in Vancouver(link: https://vancouver.ca/home-property-development/green-streets-program.aspx). For some of us who have a green thumb and love to garden but live in urban spaces, we can adopt a corner if it's available. I can say from personal experience that it is one of the most therapeutic activities ever; you meet some fantastic folks, get your hands deep in the soil, and feel connected with the earth. It's pure bliss. The city even provides free compost during spring and fall! Here's a picture of the one near me;

This is great! I was first introduced to Guerilla Gardening through Ron Finley's work. Can't hear the term without thinking of him now! https://youtu.be/EzZzZ_qpZ4w?si=yiDLSPGLPUREOYbz

I once sent my friends balls of dirt with seeds and a handwritten note to spread the love. This is the inspiration I needed today 💚Thanks for sharing!
