Very important article on the secondary impacts of the pandemic on our healthcare system. They are not good!!     Hospital COVID-19 Burden and Adverse Event Rates "After risk adjustment, the relative risk (RR) for AEs among patients admitted during weeks with high compared with low COVID-19 burden for all patients was 1.23 (95% CI, 1.09-1.39; P < .001), with similar results seen in the cohorts with (RR, 1.33; 95% CI, 1.03-1.71; P = .03) and without (RR, 1.23; 95% CI, 1.08-1.39; P = .002) COVID-19 individually."   "Conclusions and Relevance In this cohort study of hospital admissions among Medicare patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, greater hospital COVID-19 burden was associated with an increased risk of in-hospital AEs among both patients with and without COVID-19. These results illustrate the need for greater hospital resilience and surge capacity to prevent declines in patient safety during surges in demand." Like with an alcoholic we need to admit we have a new serious virus in the air and it is not going away. SARS-CoV-2 that caused Covid-19 will continue to mutate, it is what viruses do. It’s really not funny that SARS, a Covid virus, started from a dried out p-trap and today we track Covid through the sewers. Have you heard anything about getting Covid from the sewer? Have you seen filtration installed in restrooms? Have you heard any warnings on buildings that smell like sewer, meaning sewer odors and particles are bleeding into these building from broken pipes, dried out p-traps or other reasons? 🤠🥃👍

This is concerning and medical will try their best through sick systems and hope for the best “ The results of this study suggest a need for greater resilience in hospitals to prevent declines in patient safety and effectiveness of care during increases in demand, such as from pandemics, natural disasters, or other causes.”

This is from the group I used to work with before I left AHRQ in 2021. It’s great to see this. 🙂
