In a new blog, Stephen Heard explains how GP practices can support veterans and their families in ensuring they are and remain safe after transiting from the services into civilian life. He lists a number of services that veterans (anyone who has served at least one day in HM Forces) can be signposted to as part of their civilian care. Stephen emphasises that many veterans are vulnerable on transition and access to these programmes preferably via a veteran friendly GP practice can be critical to their safety. https://lnkd.in/eKFQVeyy STEPHEN HEARD #pslhub #patientsafety #gp #primarycare #veterans

Earlier this year we attended the Connected Health and Care Summit 2024, hosted by RLDatix UK & Ireland. Following on from discussions at this event, this article in Health Service Journal considers what a broader perspective on NHS data teach us about patient safety: https://lnkd.in/eMk_Fx69 This piece includes insights from many of the different speakers and attendees at this event, including our Chief Executive Helen Hughes. She held a session on the first day on introducing and implementing new electronic patient record systems safely. This reflected on the findings of our report published earlier this year, ‘Electronic patient record systems: Putting patient safety at the heart of implementation’ (Read more here: https://lnkd.in/d7VWxgwy). #pslhub #patientsafety #nhs #digitalhealth #workforcemanagement #healthcaredata #workforceplanning #clinicaloperations #workforceoperations #electronicpatientrecords Liz Jones Alex Bristow Mike Hindley

In this blog Claire Cox shares some key highlights and achievements of the Patient Safety Management Network in 2024: https://lnkd.in/eVapiYk7 On the hub we host and supports a growing number of informal peer support networks for people involved in patient safety, providing a forum for meeting up, discussing and sharing ideas and initiatives, and learning from others. The aim is to have private safe community spaces on the hub for patient safety managers and everyone working in patient safety to facilitate and nurture conversations between like-minded individuals. The Patient Safety Management Network is an innovative group for patient safety managers and everyone working in patient safety. In just over three years this has grown to now over 1800 members from more than 640 different organisations. "Now more than ever we need to continue to make the case that persistence of avoidable harm at current levels is not acceptable" In a new blog, our Chief Executive Helen Hughes reflects on our work and key patient safety developments in the past 12 months. She also looks ahead to the new year, outlining how patient safety must be integral to the UK Government’s forthcoming 10-Year Health Plan, and points to a number of new Patient Safety Learning projects planned for 2025. A pharmacist by professional background, her policy work is often connected to medicines. In this blog, Catherine talks about the recent report she co-authored for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society; Medicines Shortages Policy: Solutions for empty shelves. Featured on the hub today, a new report from the WHO Regional Office for Europe presenting a cross-sectional analysis of the current status of quality of care and patient safety in the WHO European Region. Key findings from this include: ▶️ A scaling up of implemented national action plans for quality and patient safety, including a demonstration of learning and continuous improvement of better practices, processes and outcomes, is needed in the majority of countries. ▶️ Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) plans are widely available in countries, but ample opportunities remain to combat AMR. ▶️ Health misinformation prevention plans are absent in nearly all countries. Only four countries reported the use of a health misinformation plan. ▶️ Electronic health records (EHR) are implemented in a low number of countries, jeopardizing the effective uptake of quality improvement interventions. ▶️ People-centredness indicators highlight important gaps in data collection on patient-reported outcome measures and experiences. Less than one third of the countries report on people-centredness indicators. Today we are at the Royal College of Physicians in London for the Safety For All Conference 2024. The Safety For All campaign was launched in 2021 and is focused on driving improvements in and between healthcare worker safety and patient safety, highlighting how poor staff safety standards and practice impact adversely on patient safety and vice versa. It is championing the need for a systematic and integrated approach to improve safety practice for staff and patients across health and social care so that the sum is greater than the parts. The conference features panel sessions on the following topics: ▶️ Protecting lives while protecting the planet ▶️ Navigating the many faces of violence in healthcare ▶️ Caring for caregivers and patients: Mental health and safety in healthcare ▶️ Antimicrobial Resistance: Ensuring patient safety in an era of rising resistance ▶️ Implementing the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework #SFAConference2024 #patientsafety #staffsafety #healthcare #sustainability #antimicrobialresistance #PSIRF #patientsafetyincidentresponseframework Safer Healthcare and Biosafety Network
