Huge thanks again to The Product Experience Podcast 🙏 I had such a great time diving into the importance of coaching as a leadership skill. We talked through some of the coaching tools and frameworks that I often use with clients to think through everyday challenges, including: - How the Sphere of Influence can help you map out a new approach to stakeholder management. - How considering your role in a tense situation with the Karpman Drama Triangle can give you a new perspective on tricky situations at work. - How to feel more confident about making decisions by using the Waterline analogy. Executive Coaching is extremely effective at getting results, but Field Coaching takes it to a whole new level! In this episode of the SCCi Behavioral Leadership Podcast, my colleagues Alana Walsh, BPR, CEC, PCC and Nic Weatherly, Ph.D. talk about the power of coaching "in the field", and how pairing Applied Behavioral Science with Leadership Development can change organizational culture. Highlights of this episode for me were: · Distinguishing the difference between constructive feedback for development, and criticism as punishment. · In the absence of positive feedback, great leaders can’t articulate what makes them great. This makes it incredibly difficult to intentionally influence greatness in their organization. · The distinction between behaviors and labels. · How to use feedback to shape organizational culture. Have a listen to the episode here, I think you'll love it! https://lnkd.in/gQnE6jdE

Scott Osman and I recently joined Dr. Cindy Pace on the "Inclusion Begins with Me: Conversations that Matter" podcast to delve into the significant role of executive coaching in leadership development. Many coaches compare coaching to wayfinding. You have to know where you are, and know where you are going, and then start to chart the course. It is really special since that coach is on that journey with you. You can see the amazing growth and transformation that starts to happen. We have seen it too many times to not believe in that process. Why a Coach is a Game Changer episode: https://lnkd.in/eJDcqUJc

Someone asked me recently why everything in leadership development was about self-awareness. He then told me just how irritated he was that every leadership-related workshop, article, podcast -- you name it, all were self-awareness this and self-awareness that. (It was quite the rant.) His main point, was if people just did what they were supposed to, none of this 'self-awareness stuff' would matter. My perspective: the key to understanding others is to understand yourself; examining your own experiences, beliefs, thoughts, and feelings, helps you relate better to the perspectives of others. Many successful people have stopped there. But the next step is learning to self-coach, making self-development a truly continuous process, and then coaching others to do the same. When I entered the workforce, the coach-leader concept was new. Now it's everywhere. And that is why self-awareness is everywhere.
