I am pleased to present my dissertation, completed as part of my Master’s degree at the University of Westminster. Titled "Identity Evolution: Windsor’s Transformation and National Implications", this study delves into the intricate relationship between history, cultural identity and architecture. The evolution of Windsor Castle—from a fortress to a palace—serves as a powerful symbol of England’s shifting cultural and religious values. It stands as a dynamic emblem of national identity and a visual narrative of English heritage. By conducting an in-depth analysis of the world’s oldest inhabited castle and its historically informed conservation practices, this dissertation provides valuable insights into its past, the messages conveyed through its architecture and its changing significance in modern society. The research explores how societies choose to preserve their historical legacies, what these choices reveal about their identity and the implications for how we wish to be remembered today. I am enthusiastic about continuing this exploration and welcome any insights you’d like to share. 💬 #Architecture #Conservation #CulturalIdentity #Heritage #HistoricalPreservation #WindsorCastle #UniversityofWestminster

#technocapitalism What is the impact of global technocapitalism on our cities and societies? 👁️ 🏙️ Join us next Wednesday, 20 November, 6.30 pm, Langstrasse 200, for the #LUSTalk «Silicon Valley Imperialism» by Erin McElroy and Hanna Hilbrandt Prof. Erin McElroy presents the recently published book «Silicon Valley Imperialism» which reveals the technocapitalist mechanisms that overshadow societies and spaces and create socio-spatial and income inequalities in our cities. Prof. Hanna Hilbrandt will relate this phenomenon to the Swiss context. The lectures will be followed by a discussion. | LUS Talks is a public lecture series that addresses critical questions in landscape and urban studies. This year, we explore the spatial challenges and societal changes arising from current breakdowns: disruptive moments in ecological processes and urban systems. What is falling apart and why? Who offers alternatives to these failing structures, and how do they sustain themselves when routine returns? We will examine how practices are transformed and discuss ways to resist, care for, and ultimately regrow from the remnants of the past. The LUS Talks are curated by Robin V Hueppe, Carina Sacher, and Juan Villalon Hernando. The event takes places live and online. 👉More infos are in the event calendar: https://lnkd.in/dfvvAXmC #gentrification #socialinequality #racialdispossession #displacement #housingquestion #publiclecture #spatialchallenge #urbanstudies #architecture #nsl #lustalks #ethwohnforum #ethzurich

The recording of our latest meeting on "Processes of #spatialjustice and politica #urbanism" with Ana Póvoas is now available on our website! Ana presented a collaborative project to envision a more just territory in the future, using a participatory approach. Two projects were discussed, one focusing on creating a network of actors and constructing a collective vocabulary of justice #values, and the other using a "flash method" to generate content quickly. The importance of understanding political urbanism and spatial justice through a comprehensive approach was emphasized, including the need to engage with all urban systems and acknowledge the political dimension of divisiveness about space. Challenges encountered during participatory research experiments were also discussed, such as dealing with unacceptable behaviors, convincing researchers to participate, and finding the best environment to host these processes. Local government, like the public buildings that house them, are the finest examples of civic virtue and responsibility. Throughout most of American history, government buildings in the US were designed from classical architecture. A style that symbolized the democratic ideals from the origins of democracy, Greece and Rome. Regardless of what happens tomorrow on the State and Federal level, remember the civic values that represent our local communities and be resilient. #localgovernment #cyberresilient #cyberresiliency _____________________________________________________________ Salem (VA) City Hall - Jeffersonian Revival built in 1912

Fall 2024 Course Highlight: Professor Preeti Chopra will be teaching ART HIST/ASIAN 379 "Cities of Asia" MW 2:30–3:45PM during the Fall 2024 semester. Sophomore Standing | Counts Toward Architecture Certificate | Humanities Breadth | L&S Credit. #uwmadison #uwmadisonarthistory #OnWisconsin #arthistory #citiesofasia #southasianart Enroll here: https://lnkd.in/gRG9Y_Rm Description: This semester long survey course, presents a historical overview of the built environment of the cities of Asia from antiquity to the present. Most surveys of the city focus on the West, even though the earliest neolithic settlements are found in western Asia, and the first true cities were constructed between the Tigris and Euphrates around 3500 B.C. Max Weber's work on the City was influential in drawing a contrast between Western and non-Western cities, arguing that "urban communities" and hence "true cities" were only found in the West. This course seeks does not seek to essentialize Western or non-Western cities. Instead, it seeks to explore and tease out common themes that thread through the diverse geographical regions and cultures of Asia.

How pleasant (and somewhat peculiar), I am once again able to greet you in person from the homepage of my university. 😳 🌲 So, how did we come to focus on the #ThuringianForest for a year? Our understanding of current #spatial upheavals and #transformation processes is still inadequate, which also became clear in discussions with my dear colleagues at Institut für Europäische Urbanistik. We were particularly interested in the interactions between our disciplines – from #heritage #preservation to #architecture and #planning to #urban #sociology. We were therefore tempted to put a single region through its paces, so to speak, and examine it from all our disciplinary perspectives. The Thuringian Forest, with its rich but eventful history, its exciting landscape and special settlement structure, offers ideal conditions for examining “spaces in transformation (Räume in Transformation = RiTT)”. In addition, we have some good contacts and professional relationships at the Institute to people or institutions there. Last but not least, our students have already shown a great deal of enthusiasm in the past when it came to travelling to the region and taking a close look at its special features. We now want to build on these experiences and encounters and set new priorities. 🌌 What direction are the #RiTT projects taking? First and foremost, the projects are training grounds for students of architecture and urban studies, where the real barriers and obstacles of #socioecological transformation can be examined and their own proposals or designs can be developed. Not all of the results are socially uncontroversial or can be implemented 1:1 by #planners or #politicians – nor are they intended to be. We want to listen, look and, to a certain extent, also act as a critical mirror. Furthermore, it is important to us to open up space for discourse on #future developments. With the research results and proposals from our projects, we want to provide impetus both in the expert debate and on the ground. We are already looking forward to these discussions. 🗨️ Full interview here: https://lnkd.in/e4Utzwfa and further information on this page (both sadly only in German) https://lnkd.in/eAMextmf
