After turning his life around, Jacob’s drive to make a fresh start soon became Fresh Cuts – the lawn mowing business he’s growing with the guidance of his mentor Gerard Costello at Neilston Homes. While he builds a business from his Kāinga Ora home, Jacob is also studying. And on weekends? He regularly volunteers at events throughout his Auckland neighbourhood – recently receiving a community award for his efforts. See how Jacob first got involved with his community at https://bit.ly/3CUrVNU

Antioch City Council's Community Event Fund: Ensuring Accountability and Proper Cleanup. The #AntiochCityCouncil's decision to allocate a whopping $100,000 #slushfund that the city can ill-afford as a discretionary fund for community events raises legitimate concerns about #accountability and responsible use of public funds. ACCOUNTABILITY MEASURES The council should establish clear guidelines and parameters for the appropriate use of these funds, as suggested by the City Attorney and Finance Director. #Transparency and documentation of expenditures should be mandatory to ensure the funds are not misused, with all members using the same reporting form for expenditures every three months. The reports should go online for the public to view, as are their campaign funds (Form 460 reports). While community events can have positive impacts, the #AntiochCityCouncil must implement strict accountability measures, allocate funds responsibly, and ensure event organizers bear the full cost and responsibility and keep within the $20,000 annual amount. Any amount spent over 20,000 should be the responsibility of the member. Maintaining transparency, ethical use of taxpayer funds, and civic responsibility should be priorities for elected officials when organizing such events. #CommunityEvents #PublicFundAccountability (Audit the Council) #ResponsibleGovernance #TransparentSpending #EthicalLeadership https://lnkd.in/gvf5PDkz

SATURDAY MORNING (MARCH 2ND) at 9:30 AM our amazing Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Phoenix will be cleaning up the community once again! For this Community Clean-Up (PHX) our volunteers will be meeting in the Burger King parking lot located at 2755 W Peoria Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85029 NO OPEN-TOED SHOES Cleaning up loose trash is one of the best ways to pitch in for your community and the environment. Volunteering as a means to help conserve and protect the environment has a lot of upsides. Of course, the first is that you’ll be taking care of our planet, and it badly needs a little love given the myriad ways in which we’ve become adept at destroying it. But beyond that, volunteering for a cause you care about is a great way to meet like-minded people, make friends, and pull yourself out of the blues that sometimes accompany caring a lot about something important – especially if you feel alone in your endeavors. None of us like the sight of litter. Litter spoils the look of where we live but that’s not the only reason for picking up litter. There are a number of benefits from picking up litter that you may not have considered before. Volunteer-led projects such as these are one of the quickest, simplest, and least expensive ways to inspire more community spirit and civic action. A visually appealing community increases property values, attracts businesses, and improves the neighborhood's image. Beauty is one of the three most influential factors in community attachment, which means loyalty, to your particular town or city. Some research even shows that a nice-looking neighborhood promotes good behavior. Join us in keeping the community clean!
