About us
OUR MISSION: To strengthen and grow philanthropy in Iowa. OUR VISION: Be a trusted partner and resource for philanthropy and funders in Iowa. OUR ROLE: To act as a broker for philanthropy in Iowa and our members. To achieve this, we will utilize an opportunity lens to identify innovative regional and national programs and services that ICoF can bring to our state, our members and Iowa communities. We are a membership based organization that serves grantmakers who provide funding support to charitable projects and programs in Iowa. We strive to strengthen and promote philanthropy, facilitate and promote effective philanthropic grantmaking, and to provide a forum for the exchange of information on programs and issues. OUR STRATEGIC PRIORITIES: Our work is guided by the four strategic priorities outlined below. 1. Increase philanthropic AWARENESS in Iowa 2. Increase philanthropic IMPACT through ICoF members 3. From the Brookings Institution: Major IIJA and IRA funding opportunities for rural America will be implemented by intermediaries—and may take years A major portion of the funding provided by the IIJA, CHIPS, and IRA that has significant implications for rural community and economic development will be decided upon and awarded through intermediaries. Understanding the timing and pathways for distribution is critical since rural places often face challenges accessing federal resources.

The Funders Network's PLACES Fellowship Cohort PLACES — which stands for Professionals Learning About Community, Equity and Sustainability — uses learning, coaching and reflections to explore structural racism, community empowerment and equitable grantmaking practices. In addition to the PLACES curriculum, Fellows learn from the people and places we visit. Our Fellowship Cohort, selected annually from a highly competitive pool of applicants, embarks on year-long journey that includes four site visits to communities across the U.S. and Canada. The PLACES Fellowship concludes with a capstone presentation and graduation — but that rarely marks the end of the PLACES experience. As any PLACES alum will tell you, the deep bonds and professional connections forged by the Fellows extend well beyond the end of their cohort year. Application deadline is January 6, 2025.
