On Leadership: Having served as a leader at Amazon for several years, I've embraced two core principles that have profoundly shaped my approach to leadership. As a philosopher-turned-techie, I value distilling complex ideas into their essence, and these principles are central to my leadership philosophy. 🌟Principle #1: The key to motivating people is either by putting something scary behind them or by casting a vision so compelling that they move forward driven by sheer anticipation and excitement. 🌟Principle #2: In every meeting and interaction—whether with a team member or a customer—I face a choice: to either inject energy into the room or to drain it. This awareness guides my every action and helps maintain a positive, dynamic environment. These principles have been instrumental in crafting my leadership style. If you find these insights useful or have thoughts to share, I'd love to hear from you in the comments! #Leadership #Motivation #Teamwork #Amazon #EnergyInLeadership #VisionaryLeadership #AmazonCloud #PersonalDevelopment #ExecutiveInsights #Enablement #SalesEnablement
How do you balance casting vision and addressing challenges in your leadership role, Justin Lerma ☁?
A characteristic of your work is how you elegantly simplified complexity. It is a great super power and resulted in terrific contributions.
yes on both...#2 is spot on! I can't thank you enough for bringing your energy and enthusiasm to every interaction!
Two very solid principles! #2 is a great one. When you pour positivity into conversations/ interactions, you will always get a better outcome then bringing negativity! 📈
Love this Justin Lerma ☁!! You are right on the money! Positivity rules and grit paves way to success with resilience.
First, Justin, I certainly find these core principles useful and I miss working with you! I think these two principles can certainly help in leading people to success and your team(s) are lucky to have you. This might sound controversial, and I'm considering Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Benjamin, and Heidegger when I say this, but I think Principle #1 would benefit from an "and," while removing the "either/or." To explain why I came to this conclusion (or confusion?) in the realm of motivation, the duality between fear and allure manifests as two potent forces guiding human action. While some find impetus in the looming specter of consequences, others are propelled by the magnetic pull of envisioned possibilities. Yet, within this dichotomy lies a paradox: the dread of inertia may serve as the catalyst for progress, while the boundary between trepidation and fervent anticipation blurs, revealing the complex interplay between apprehension and aspiration on the path towards success and fulfillment. And those are my thoughts for a Thursday motivated by the above stated philosophers, including you!
