A quote that has transformed my thinking is the idea of the "Empty Chair", from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.... He explains that he and his team always leave an empty chair in rooms to signify the customer. The thought is: "If what we are doing is not benefiting the consumer, what is the point?" Why is this important? At the end of the day, we do this work for the PEOPLE. It is so important to remember that having a human-centric approach invites us to walk in empathy and focus on the needs of the individual so that we can provide them with the best experience. As leaders, how can thinking of those in the “empty chair” help you to change your perspective as you produce work? #leadership #Amazon #change #humancenteredleadership #empathy #business

On Leadership: Having served as a leader at Amazon for several years, I've embraced two core principles that have profoundly shaped my approach to leadership. As a philosopher-turned-techie, I value distilling complex ideas into their essence, and these principles are central to my leadership philosophy. 🌟Principle #1: The key to motivating people is either by putting something scary behind them or by casting a vision so compelling that they move forward driven by sheer anticipation and excitement. 🌟Principle #2: In every meeting and interaction—whether with a team member or a customer—I face a choice: to either inject energy into the room or to drain it. This awareness guides my every action and helps maintain a positive, dynamic environment. These principles have been instrumental in crafting my leadership style. If you find these insights useful or have thoughts to share, I'd love to hear from you in the comments! #Leadership #Motivation #Teamwork #Amazon #EnergyInLeadership #VisionaryLeadership #AmazonCloud #PersonalDevelopment #ExecutiveInsights #Enablement #SalesEnablement

I believe training in philosophy (my background too) is useful and makes you seek the truth by reducing any argument to its simplest propositions. Often complexity hides contradictions and layers of untested, although commonly held, assumptions. Getting to the truth helps you create strategies founded in reality and the simpler it is the more likely you'll have success when executing.

Great leaders know that listening first makes a big difference. Jeff Bezos, when he was CEO of Amazon, famously said he preferred to be the last one to talk at meetings. This ensured he heard all ideas and opinions before giving his own. When you listen, you: 👉Build trust: Your team feels valued and respected. 👉Encourage new ideas: Everyone gets a chance to share their thoughts. 👉Strengthen relationships: It shows you care about what others have to say. To be a great leader, choose to listen first and talk later. #Leadership #Communication #Teamwork #ListeningSkills #LeadershipAcademy

For anyone who regularly feels any burden from work, I highly encourage you to look into mindfulness activities and support structures. I can personally attest to carrying too much stress related to things that are outside of my direct control. Allowing yourself the grace to step away from those burdens opens you up to perform at much higher levels of excellence and focus on the daily contributions you can make towards process. Big rocks and small rocks matter when building a road.

The profound impact recognition has on individual performance cannot be overstated. When people feel valued and recognized for their contributions, they are more likely to try their best. This intrinsic motivation fosters a positive environment, improves productivity, and cultivates loyalty among team members. As leaders and organizations strive for excellence, prioritizing recognition as a core value will not only encourage employees to exceed expectations, but also create a culture of mutual respect and commitment. Ultimately, understanding and harnessing the power of recognition can lead to remarkable results, both for individuals and for the organization as a whole. #management #ceo #leadership #marketing #humanresources #director
People who feel appreciated will always do more than expected because appreciation is one of life’s greatest motivators. So now more than ever, all of our employees need to be shown some level of recognition for the incredible sacrifice and inspiring work they perform every day during these unprecedented times. When we take the time to let people know that we value them, it inspires them to continue doing even more and reinforces the habit of other people doing the same. Are you making your people feel valued? Are you affirming them? Are you empowering them? Love this article because it is encouraging for reflection and thought on how we do at recognizing employees and firming them both in front of other peers and directly to them.

Well written and exactly what I will be doing in 2025.
To move forward in life, it is essential to let go of what has already happened and focus on what is yet to come. This means closing the door to the past - leaving behind any negative experiences, regrets, or mistakes - and opening the door to the future with a positive outlook and a willingness to learn and grow. Doing so can pave the way for new opportunities, experiences, and relationships, creating a brighter and more fulfilling future for ourselves. This is a great way for all of us to remember who we are serving. Brand teams at Procter & Gamble (and other consumer-facing companies) have been doing this for decades. At P&G, different Brand teams "brought the consumer" into the room in different ways. Many used the "empty chair" - except they permanently affixed a sign with her personified name... and addressing "the consumer" by name and speak of her as a real person whom they know. Other brand teams made life-sized, stand-up cut-out of her - also addressing her and her needs, by name. This is an incredibly powerful way to ensure that you are working FOR her, and advocating for her, and trying to help improve her life (not just sell her 'stuff'). Thank YOU for the reminder, Audrey.
